The Alfa Romeo brand has been making a lot of headlines lately, as the brand is in the middle of a reinvention. According to a report from Automotive News Europe, the Italian automaker’s new CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato told Italian journalists during a roundtable event that it will be dropping the brand’s award-winning unibody rear-wheel-drive ‘Giorgio’ architecture that currently underpins the Giulia and Stelvio. The brand will switch to the recently announced ‘STLA Large’ architecture which will underpin D & E-Segment unibody crossovers, SUVs, and cars, including the next-generation Dodge Charger and Challenger.

But they need something considerably smaller - appropriately priced - than a full-size pickup. Don't misappropriate Dakota for a cheaper full-size.
It was just an idea. I’d think a compact unibody pickup, Gladiator, 1500 “Dakota”, and regular 1500 would cover the market pretty well.

They already have a mid-size pickup, Gladiator. Though it is more expensive than what everyone hoped for.
They can use that platform to create a Ram version.

Correct. There will be no smaller/budget entry for high margin segments - people who keep asking for this will find a welcome support group on another site, where people there talk about products which will never be made, by a company that no longer exists.

If things get tight economically in the future, they'll bring over South America small Ram. They would rather lose sales in a downturn to the Maverick/Ranger, than self-cannabalize their own sales with a lower tier offering when things recover.

This is not about "budget" pickups. This is about smaller pickups, but smaller pickups that fit better in garages and in more urbanized terrain shouldn't cost quite as much as full-size pickups, which are out of hand in terms of price anyway.
