Development of the sixth-generation Opel Astra is on target, according to the German brand. With the debut of the brand’s best-selling compact model just a few weeks away, final testing, tuning, and validation continue. Opel engineers took Astra prototypes and development units to the icy roads of Swedish Lapland, and some have been racing around the test tracks at the Dudenhofen Test Center, and recently have been carrying out validation drives on public roads in the Frankfort Rhine-Main region in Germany. The new Astra also went final tests in the Rüsselsheim EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility) laboratory before receiving type approval for production.

Frankfurt Motor Show? Not going to happen. IAA moves to Munich.

I‘m curious about the Astra. Hopefully less conservative this time. But not as busy as the 308.
 
That's the balance I want them to hit. Something with mroe identity than the GM Opel products but not as busy as Peugeot.
IMO, both Opel and Fiat have potential to sell way more than Peugeot with comparable ranges.
 
If they want to inject a life into Chrysler, they can use Opel as a start and use the proper Chrysler's design, similar to what Buick was up to 2017.
 
I agree with that. I believe the main challenge would be to find manufacturing facility to make the Chrysler versions. Would they be done in Europe?
I don't know how import tariffs are currently between the EU and the US.
If they would manufacture said vehicles in the US, then they would lose economy of scale.
 
I hated the Opel Buicks in our fleet. We still have a few 2019 Casadas which we can't get rid ourselves of. I would rejoice every time one of those hideous lumps was taken out to the wholesale auctions.
 
So the Chinese Bu Icks are better... :D :D
 
French still trying to integrate the Asian Crease even in less edgy model, pun intended. I am just not a fan of the harsh lines. Its not 1980s stealth tech, the modeler can handle a fillet.
 
Opel's chief designer is the Englishman Mark Adams. The design happens in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The current brand design is intended to express particularly "Germanness" according to the PR department. :whistle:
 
AND.... he is not Asian either but Crease design is where that is popular........ What is mostly expressed is the Asian Crease with French influence sprinkled in through the hard points. Smoke doesn't save drowning victim no matter where the PR department blows it.
 
Side line is very like i30. :O
 
Farily clean and conservative. I like it. Sure beats having too many lines, curves, creases, bumps, bulges and black plastic.

The biggest mistake that GM ever made was getting rid of Opel. They took the lead to develop the current generation Chevrolet Equinox (sold as the Antara), and made it a substantially better vehicle. And what did they get for all their hard work, being treated like dirt by GM management especially Mary Barra. She basically let them wither and then just cast them off. Consequentl, that is why your 2019 Casadas were so bad. For Opel though, it was the best thing that could happen that GM ditched them and they now are getting the resources to succeed. The new Opel Astra is a good looking vehicle, although the back end is a little boring. If Stellantis keeps funding Opel’s development, they could easily help every brand improve their technology, and most importantl, driving dynamic. Great to see Opel coming back.

Certainly better then the other platform mates.... Just take the crease lines may 4X on fillets... at least 2X and it would be pleasing without the over homage to Asians styling cues.
