The all-new 2022 Jeep® Commander has become a home run for Jeep in the Brazilian market. The new 7-passenger premium model has broken records and is the first Jeep model completely developed in Brazil by the Stellantis LATAM team. OK, somebody tell me why this Jeep, essentially a stretched Compass I believe, is not built in some rendition, Jeep or Chrysler, in North America. With a few modifications, or at most some sheet metal changes as a Chrysler, it could be rolling off the Compass assembly line in short order. Brazil has done a great job here, paid for all the development and Stellantis chooses to pass. I’m sure there is a reason, but it is a mystery to me. It’s a really nice SUV and the Compass is an excellent building block. I’d build a Commander spin off in our NA factory in a heartbeat. Maybe something else is in the works for Chrysler, at least. The Commander mystery continues to befuddle.

I agree. With the Cherokee doing so poorly, this would be great to replace it with three-row of seating. The current Compass has more interior room than the Cherokee anyhow.

The SUSW platform is shared by the Compass, this Latin Commander and the Toro/Ram 1000. We know the Compass is successful here, and I suspect the other two would be as well. The big IF is the powertrain. The 2.4 liter Tigershark is a liability and the push is now on for electrification. The Compass has a plugin hybrid option for the EU so the pieces are in place if someone green lights production closer to home. We are definitely getting home built versions of the GSE series of engines.

The Latin American powertrain choices aren't practical for our driving and regulatory environments. So that part will have to be redone.
