What ever happened to the next-gen ZF hybrid transmissions? Both the Pentastar V6 and Hemi are running 48V, some would also want an e-motor in the transmission to compliment the BSG. Mild hybrids don't have plugs, so none of this would compete with a future Ramcharger.
The Jeep Wagoneer S is built on the same platform and uses the same architecture as the KM. The "S" has a 113" wheelbase and is 192.4" overall. The KM Cherokee has different front and rear styling so overall length will be different but very close.
The two row Grand Cherokee is only an inch and...
The Opel Grandland PHEV uses a high voltage eDCT. The Stellantis media announcements haven't gone into any detail on it. I don't know enough of the EU side to be 100% sure where it is sourced from.
The Cherokee is based on the STLA Large platform, we still don't have many of the technical...
I just saw the 2026 Jeep Patriot. It is hiding inside the LWB Opel Frontera, which debuted on Wednesday, June 25.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm reminded of the Patriot from some...
Has anybody really heard what hybrid system this Cherokee uses?
If it's the Punch transaxle run away.
Is it a 48V mild hybrid or a high voltage full hybrid?
Which or whose design will it be?
To quote the article, " It’s a mild-hybrid setup that combines a 12-volt Belt Start Generator (BSG) motor with a lithium-ion battery. Peak output? Just 70 horsepower, but that’s right in line with the last 500 Hybrid and Fiat Panda Hybrid, which shared the same powertrain." I would call this a...
My 1974 Dodge D-100 had an 8-foot and a 131" wheelbase and was considered a full size truck. The 2025 Toyota Tacoma has the same 131" wheelbase and yet today it is considered a mid-size.
If Fiat offers an Abarth version with the 6-speed BSG combo replacing the 3 cylinder GSE for the 1.3 liter GSE-T they will have a winner. Hopefully there will be a work around for the tariff situation.
The problem with that is since public transportation in the US is basically a ward of the state, bureaucratic ineptitude is crashing that network faster than whatever is planned for private automobile use. Look what happened with the battery electric busses in Philadelphia recently.
OK...
The service departments in many CJDR dealerships are horrible. I wouldn't trust most of them to even change a set of wiper blades. Being stuck with that network for that long is a total disincentive for me. Just think ten years of hearing, "We don't hear any noise" and "That's not included under...
I say give CARB what they want. If I ran the circus, I would flip through my Rolodex and call up Leapmotor. I would assemble a team who would plan and implement everything possible to flood California with domestic market Leap T03 models at prices which undercut everything. This would overwhelm...
This is the direction Fiat USA should be pursuing. Not just the battery swapping, but also combine the Free2Move rental, leasing and car sharing services to escape from the failing boutique sales paradigm. Now that the government is stepping back from EV mandates, subsidized charging stations...
Here we call them neighborhood electric vehicles. Personally I would love to see something like the TRIS pickup sold here. I've seen up close the retirement communities in Florida with the pathways for golf carts and small electrics, the TRIS would be a great ride for such an environment.
I'm...
It's too small. The concept is great, but our market needs something closer to a C-segment size. Another sad fact is our market is getting the 1.6 PSA engine. I don't know if it will fit in the smaller Fiats. I have have my doubts about the GSE series engines because of the tariff uncertainty...
The default setup of the Gen IV ZF 8-speed is the 48V mild hybrid version. The legacy transmission setup with a conventional torque converter is fading away from the consumer market. The eTorque setup, used since 2019 in Ram pickups, is an older generation mild hybrid. The newer mild hybrid...
So where are the hybrid transmissions? We should have been seeing those by now. If the Hemi and Pentastar are 48V capable then we should see a 48V hybrid transmission option for those engines.
