I drive a hybrid more for the smoothness and the fuel economy is a bonus. Why Stellantis went backwards with the Hurricane six by using start/stop instead of the BSG is a head scratcher. The worst offender is the Lincoln Navigator, which shuts down in the car wash at the worst possible moment...
I will be happy if those stupid start/stop systems go away. I don't think all vehicle emission standards are going away, just the ones connected to the climate hysteria. What won't change are customer expectations, this will define the market choices over power train offerings.
Main stream...
You have it backwards. They took (stole) a Chrysler and made into a Peugeot. From the cowl back, the latest Peugeot 5008 appears to be something which was supposed to be a Chrysler. There was scheduled product which was to be a Journey replacement arriving under the Chrysler brand name. That...
In the very recent past, Ford had to limit the number of hybrids they were building because the company had used all their battery production on money losing battery electric vehicles such as the Mock-e and F-150 Lightning. I wonder if Stellantis has Forded themselves with the Charger Daytona...
Toyota's strategy for electrification is plug and play. That's what I call it, but I can't remember what the official name is. Basically Toyota will offer a combination of hybrid and electric drives for each vehicle to offer various degrees of electrification from a single motor hybrid...
What is the difference between the battery electric version of the Compass and the others, if there is a large delay to advance the introduction of the ICE models. If the BEV is that different to manufacture from the ICE equipped models, the profitability of the next Compass is questionable from...
This is quite shameful on the part of Stellantis. It is rumored the next Toyota RAV4 will have a choice of a hybrid or pure battery electric drive available. What is even sadder is that before Toyota went this route, GM was pioneering using common electric drive components between various types...
Stellantis had too many people working from home. When Auburn Hills was an active hub of activity there was more opportunity for interaction with suppliers.
Here is an example of what ZF is now offering. Range Extender Systems
I was shuffling cars around at work the other day when I happened across a Hyundai Venue. It is two inches shorter in length than the Avenger in both wheelbase and overall length. My L-body 4 door Dodge Omni, from back in the day, had the same 99" wheelbase that the Venue has. (For reference...
The political situation of tariffs and environmental regulations is changing rapidly here in North America. The market here has rapidly flipped back to ICE power last winter and EV sales have plateaued. Sales projections for electrification are now in doubt. Compounding this is some of the...
Either do it right or don't do it at all. The funeral for the Ford EcoSport wasn't that long ago. That model tainted Ford's reputation even worse than it was. Did I mention the 3 cylinder turbo engine in the EcoSport comes from the same family tree as the 3 cylinder Pure-Tech in the Avenger...
My frustration with the Hurricane Six is that there haven't been any hybrid versions of it shown or announced. Part of the reason for going with an inline design was it allows more space for things like e-chargers under the hood.
A Miller Cycle Hurricane 6 would be awesome with the new hybrid...
Ram and Fiat do a good job of coexisting in the Latin American market. The separation of the Ram brand from Dodge contributes greatly to overseas success for the brand. General Electric created the Hot Point brand name for appliances because GE was the ugly American in some markets. I'm sure...
This is a thumbs up for all ten posts above.
Post #5 - What is LEV? Lackluster Electric Vehicle? Those particular vehicles have gotten good reviews overseas, so I'm not being that critical.
The reality is they took the Chrysler model we were supposed to get and made it into a Peugeot. The Peugeot 5008 is built on the STLA-medium platform and seems to be a missing Chrysler which was supposed to be based off the Latin American Jeep Commander. In typical French fashion the drivetrain...
The date of this thread goes back to December 21, 2023. A lot has happened at Stellantis and specifically Ram since then. It is looking like we are getting a Fiat Scudo sized replacement for the ProMaster City replacement...
