Dodge Reportedly Planning New Crossover Between Hornet and Durango

Dodge Reportedly Planning New Crossover Between Hornet and Durango

New Model Aims to Expand Dodge Lineup by 2028...

Sources close to MoparInsiders suggest that Dodge is working on adding a new crossover to its lineup. The model would slot between the C-segment Hornet and the E-segment Durango, with a planned debut no earlier than 2028. This move comes as Dodge looks to expand its portfolio, which currently consists of just three vehicles.

While I seriously hope that it won't look like a Honda Passport with a Fratzog logo in the grille, this just continues on with the Rumored Dodge Stealth SUV that was talked about last year. More than likely it will be the sister car to the Wagoneer S with ICE and ICE hybrid powertrains more than likely with a base engine of the 300hp 2.0L Hurricane-4 EVO engine and a hybrid variant powered by that engine coupled to a hybrid Gen-4 8-speed gearbox with the new 215hp electric motors for a performance variant with 515 total system horsepower and have big brembo brakes, performance suspension and all of that with performance styling inside and out and be able to do up to 75mph in full electric with a 40-mile full electric range. Normal mode will probably have the electric motors only using about 100hp while sport mode will allow about 180hp of electric motor and push to pass will release the full 215hp of the electric motor for added performance. Figure it to be roughly around the size of the original SRT8 Grand Cherokee with more power, better handling and balance and everything else. The Performance hybrid may fall under the GLH umbrella as well. Just my thoughts

This should have been done and in production years ago. 3 years or more is totally unacceptable.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Not too sure dodge will even exist at that point. This suv needs to be out by next year, I expect for the timeline to be pushed up. Two years from now? No way. Stellantis is purposely killing this brand.

The Chrysler brand gets jack. There has been a steady cadence of new product introductions in Europe and Latin America for Opel and the legacy PSA brands. On another thread we read in Latin America that the Jeep Commander is getting a refresh, while its platform mate the Ram Rampage gets constant improvements. There was supposed to be a Chrysler version of the Commander for our market which never arrived. Both it and the Rampage could have been built here at least four years ago.

Wasn't Chrysler supposed to be the people mover brand and Dodge the performance brand? The Journey didn't fit the new Dodge persona and wasn't replaced. Here's your Journey replacement, enjoy the 1600cc engine and hybrid drive train.

The E-body Challenger and Barracuda models showed up for 1970 while the pony car and muscle car parties were breaking up. Their sales were disappointing to say the least. I suspect Dodge will find once again that consumers will have moved on to something else by 2028. Even right now the auto market is rapidly shifting. The Ford Maverick is a huge success. The Slate Truck EV is still a year away from production, but suddenly there is a paradigm shift towards affordability and simplicity, which is now changing customer expectations and consumer preferences.

Just like the Durango should have been redone at least 3 years ago. It should have been out a year after the GC-L. I have a '24 Durango GT Plus and love it, but a refresh is needed. I like the fact that there are still real buttons for all climate control and heated seats and wheel functions.

Empty trivial news. Stale Antics has proven to be completely incapable of pulling off , well, their basic function in life. Building cars. I’ll believe this when I see it. Like all these new Chryslers coming. Get your handkerchiefs out people. The fat lady is warming up for the end of Chrysler and Dodge.

I wonder if this is related to the STLA Large Alfa Romeo CUV planned for JNAP in 2027... If so, hopefully there is greater differentiation than between the Tonale and Hornet.

My Dodge lineup:
STLA Medium-
Midsize performance coupe/sedan and a Hornet SUV replacement- 3 vehicles.
STLA Luxury Large-
Charger coupe/sedan, Challenger/Cuda coupe, Stealth SUV and a Durango SUV replacement- 5 vehicles.
MASERATI Shared Platform-
Next generation Viper Mid Engine built off Maserati MC 20 platform- 1 vehicle.
That would give Dodge 9 vehicles in formally held segments off three platforms.
This lineup would restore Dodge to its former lineup coverage. Very easy fix.

Some comments on the above ^^^ video follows.

Cheapening up the Hornet can be done by using a GME-T4 built in this country combined with a transmission also built here. As was suggested, offer it as a front driver. FCA made the same mistake with the Fiat 500X. Europe got a sportier front drive version of the 500X with a lowered suspension. Meanwhile North America was stuck with a Jeep wannabe when they already had the Renegade built on the same line. I'm not suggesting the Hornet needs to be lowered.

The D-segment crossover needs unique styling to display some Dodge characteristics. It can't come off as another wannabe Asian crossover.

RRB is right, the Wagoneer S does seem more like a Dodge model than a Jeep. I remember how the LX Dodge Magnum was sold in North America, but was given a facelift and sold as a Chrysler in Europe. This could be done with the Wagoneer S. Give the Dodge version a new front clip and a different tailgate. CDJ also needs to come up with a range extended drive train for all their STLA-large and medium battery electrics. But that would be another thread

"Dodge takes cues from the Grand Caravan and Journey’s winning formula"
Journey is winning formula only in the "deranged mind".

Something doesn't add up.

We are talking about year when current generation Dodge Hornet should be already dead if all goes according to plans.

STLA Medium based car should offer more interior space for a given size than comparable STLA Large based car.
Of course if Peugeot did design it properly.

Wouldn't this be twinned with the new Stelvio underpinnings, since Dodge is supposed to be the "performance" brand? I assume it will take elements from the the Wagoneer S (rear spoiler) with aerodynamic tricks from the Stelvio on a more blunt upright (updated version of the Durango) fascia, so that it's more fuel efficient. Since it's likely to be aimed at something like the CX70, I would expect some form of hybridized powertrain since the CX70 is pulling 23 city/28 hwy fuel efficiency numbers with a 3.3L (349hp/369 lb-ft) inline 6.

"Stale Antics" :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

I've been seeing these photoshop designs pop up and the first one really caught my attention as something that could standout for Dodge. Curious, if they'll have any of the European design influence as well as packaging like we just saw in the new Compass?Screenshot_20250506_132039_Chrome.jpg

These Private Equity era garbage, and I know this as an ownership, should never be referenced when using the term winning .... the RT was a major step backwards from the RS. And the only remarkable thing about the Journey was that it hung on so long it became a cash cow.

The Hornet was one of the biggest flops in all of automotive news over the last 3 years, so now they're going to try again with a larger (read: more expensive) model? Seriously? Are these people brain dead?

They need more affordable options, not the other way around.

Things aren't much different today. All the Stellantis vans are badge engineering exercises off the same basic vehicle and just look how they stretch out the life of the eCMP structure with all the different top hats. That is the Dodge Journey to the Nth degree.

That particular Journey and its platform are long gone as well as the RT generation of minivans. Today D-segment SUV/CUV products are knocking pickup trucks off the top sales podium. Should Dodge ignore this? Also since all the vans in the Stellantis universe are badge engineered, why not have a Dodge version of something? I remember the Dodge Grand Caravan ES from the late 1990's. There were a lot of Dodge characteristics built into it. There is a risk of stepping on Ram Truck's toes with a Dodge van, but look how the Chysler brand was starved of new products to the point of near death by the risk of stepping on Jeep's toes.

I do not advocate bringing any eCMP products here. The Smart platform is much better if CDJ managers wish to go that small. Now that the market is on the cusp of the EREV era, the medium and large platforms present better opportunities.
