Ram 1500 EcoDiesel V6 Updates & News:

Some New Bits Of Information About The Next-Gen EcoDiesel...

At the public unveiling of the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 way back on January 15th, 2018, then CEO of the Ram Truck Brand (now FCA CEO) Mike Manley told the crowd “when our diesel arrives in 2019, we are going to reclaim all the claims we have.” A pretty bold statement, for really not releasing many details about the next-generation EcoDiesel V6.

Now, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) faced huge fines because of violating emissions regulations on the current 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, Ram Truck owners who have the diesel in their half-tons for the most part love their engines. So you would imagine, that since Mr. Manley made that statement back in early 2018 we receive a ton of e-mail with questions of when is the new EcoDiesel coming.

A few weeks ago our sister site 5thGenRams.com, showed you under the hood of the next-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with pictures of a prototype 2019 Ram 1500 Limited truck equipped with the new engine. However, our sources are now telling us that we will still see the EcoDiesel 5th generation Ram 1500 this year. But, it won’t be a 2019 model year truck. Instead, it will be a 2020 model year.

Yes, it looks like Ram is doing what they did back in 2013 and 2014. So it might be part of Ram’s plan to take another Motor Trend Truck of the Year award away from the competition. However, you won’t have to wait for fall to be able to buy a 2020 Ram 1500. That’s right, the new model year will start early. Since the 2019 model year has already been over a year and half long, Ram will launch the new 2020 Ram 1500 this summer. But, expect the new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel Ram 1500s to start arriving around the 3rd quarter (Fall) of this year.

Our friends at Real Fast Fotography, came across a 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab 4×4 EcoDiesel prototype testing on the public roads of Michigan this weekend. You can clearly see that the unique EcoDiesel hood badges are taped up like the ones we showed you on previous EcoDiesel articles.

So what do we know about the new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6? We do know it will feature standard Electronic Start Stop (ESS). The new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine implements new turbocharger technology with a low-friction bearing designed for low end and transient performance. The upgraded EcoDiesel V-6 engine will now feature low-friction pistons to improve fuel economy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide an enhanced combustion system – new injector nozzle, piston bowl, and glow plug with integrated combustion pressure sensor to optimize combustion.
