CAUGHT: 2025 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve

Spy Photos Reveal 2025 Grand Cherokee Testing New Engine and Updated Design...

The anticipation for the 2025 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL) is heating up as spy photographers from KGPPhotography recently caught several prototypes testing on public roads. These images give us a sneak peek into the changes Jeep is preparing for the brand’s most popular and most award-winning SUV offering.

The 2025 Grand Cherokee, known for its ruggedness and capability, is getting a facelift. The prototypes reveal subtle but notable updates to the front end. Expect a revised grille and bumper design, likely aiming for a more modern and aggressive appearance without straying too far from the iconic Jeep aesthetic. The photos also show us sensor have been moved higher up in the front fascia, making a suggestion that improved Level 3 autonomy could arrive for the 2025 model year.

One of the most significant changes for the 2025 Grand Cherokee is under the hood. Jeep is set to introduce an all-new standard powertrain across the entire lineup. This move is part of Stellantis’ broader strategy to meet stricter Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations.

Since its debut, the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee has offered a variety of engines, including the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and the powerful 5.7-liter HEMI® V8. However, the upcoming 2025 model will feature an updated version of the corporate 2.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane4 four-cylinder engine. This engine will replace both the HEMI V8 and the Pentastar V6 across the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L lineups.

In the midsize SUV segment, performance is key. The Hurricane4 engine in the current Wrangler delivers 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. However, rumors suggest that the 2025 Grand Cherokee could receive an enhanced version of this engine, potentially branded as the “Hurricane4 EVO.” This new variant is expected to produce around 300 horsepower, placing it in direct competition with the Ford Explorer’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, which offers 300 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.

Inside, the 2025 Grand Cherokee is also set for some updates. Borrowing from the larger Wagoneer, the new Grand Cherokee will feature a larger 12-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment screen. This upgrade promises a more intuitive user experience with better connectivity and functionality.

These Summit prototypes, look to carryover their 21-inch wheels and hands-free power hatch.

To further streamline its offerings, the Grand Cherokee L will only come with the new 2.0-liter turbo engine. Meanwhile, the standard Grand Cherokee will continue to offer a 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version alongside the new turbo engine. This approach simplifies the powertrain choices for consumers while still providing a more eco-friendly option.

While these spy photos provide a glimpse into the future of the Grand Cherokee, official details and specifications from Jeep are still under wraps. As the 2025 model year approaches, more information will likely be released, including pricing, exact performance figures, and additional features.

2L engine in a $65K vehicle. They're out of their god damn minds. I don't care how many HP it has or what the Explorer has. I will never buy a new Jeep again.

The formula isn't hard guys - high displacement engines (3.6L, minimum) + mild hybrid. Build the CAFE overages / fines into the price of the vehicle.

If it does not have the Hurricane six...I’m out!

Another dumb move by Stellantis.
That engine will be working hard to move this big, heavy SUV. Going to a smaller engine is false economy as it will have to work harder under a heavy load, or climbing a long interstate hill at 70. Fuel economy will be no better than the 3.6 , it may even be worse under load conditions.
The 2.0 is far from a Hemi replacement. Sales will tank because of poor product planning 5 years ago.
The company is missing in so many market segments because of the bowing to St Margins started by Sergio. This move will further erode their market share.

Yes I agree! Sales will tank and Jeep goes down hill. If they need to use a 4 banger at least make it a 2.7 liter so the engine can withstand the stress better. A little 2.0 will give way under to much stress in time trying to move around a heavy load and forget about towing. A 2.7 gives more meat under the hood and can provide more power say like 375 horsepower and maybe say 430 ft-lbs. If they can’t manage that kind of power and Torque out of a 4 banger then put the new hurricane inline 6 in it and go for the same power numbers I mentioned above. I understand the V6 and the V8’s are going away sad to say. But don’t drop the bigger displacements for a cheap 2.0. And for the price they will be asking for this 2025 would be ludicrous. Someone at Stellantis just don’t get it. After all Chevrolet’s 2.7 has 310 hp and 430 ft-lbs at hand. Jeep can and must do better!
