In the latest episode of Goldberg’s Garage, former professional football player turned wrestling icon Bill Goldberg, reveal another stunning piece of automotive history from his collection – his 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T. Tucked away in storage for over a decade, this Mopar masterpiece is back in the spotlight, and it’s a sight to behold.
Rarity –
First off, let’s talk rarity. While the 1970 Dodge Coronet may not be as scarce as some of its siblings, the R/T trim adds an extra layer of exclusivity. With just 2,615 units produced, it’s already a rare find. But Goldberg’s Coronet takes it a step further.
Underneath the hood lies a 7.2-liter (440-cubic-inch) SIX PACK V8 engine – a powerplant that was only chosen by 194 customers in 1970. Couple that with an automatic Torqueflite gearbox, and you’re looking at one of only 97 units ever made. And if that wasn’t enough, this Coronet boasts a triple-black color scheme, making it one of just 18 built like this.
Power and Performance –
Now, let’s talk muscle. The 440 SIX PACK V8 sits comfortably between the standard 440 4-BBL and the legendary HEMI engine. With three two-barrel carburetors, it packs a punch with 390 horsepower and 490 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s enough grunt to turn the R/T into a 14-second quarter-mile car, hitting 60 mph in less than seven seconds.
Sure, Goldberg might not be hitting the drag strip in this beauty, but you can bet he’s putting that power to good use with a few burnouts and donuts, once the 6-BBL carb is tuned.
Restoration and Resurrection –
After spending 16 years on a lift, you’d expect a car to show its age. But not this Coronet. Thanks to proper storage, it looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. Sure, the carburetors need a bit of tuning, but otherwise, it’s spotless and ready to turn heads at classic car events across the US.
Goldberg’s YouTube series has not only given him the opportunity to showcase his impressive collection but also to breathe new life into forgotten classics like this Coronet R/T.
