This 1975 Dodge 1800 Deluxo, is a classic left-hand-drive coupe that was originally sold new in Brazil before finding its way to the United States. Recently imported by the selling dealer in December 2022, this beautiful car has undergone significant work to ensure its reliability and performance.
Under previous ownership, the car underwent a series of refurbishments that included replacing the fuel pump, weatherstripping, washer-fluid reservoir, locks, latches, handles, spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap, rotor, brake and fuel hoses, and tires. The car’s exterior is finished in a sleek silver, which has been repainted, and features black vinyl upholstery, chrome bumpers, styled 13-inch wheels, and quad headlamps. Other equipment includes front disc brakes, bucket seats, and an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette stereo.
Built by Chrysler Corporation do Brasil, the 1800 is essentially a version of the Hillman Avenger, renamed as Polara in 1976. The car’s history is rich, having been produced by Chrysler Europe’s UK-based Rootes Group division, which had previously sent the related Plymouth Cricket to the U.S. market in the early 1970s.
The car’s exterior is stylish and unique, featuring a black grille and lower bodywork, Deluxo badging, and a polished exhaust finisher. Additionally, a Movesa Porto Alegre badge is affixed to the rear of the car.
The car’s 13-inch styled wheels are mounted with 175/70 Firestone F-700 tires and are adorned with chrome trim rings. A matching spare tire is located in the trunk, along with a fire extinguisher. Braking is handled by unassisted front discs and rear drums, with the brake hoses and tires having been replaced under prior ownership.
Inside the car, the front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl upholstery. Other equipment includes a floor shifter, vent windows, rubber floor mats, and a TKR AM/FM/Cassette stereo. The weatherstripping and door locks, handles, and latches have also been replaced to ensure the car’s interior is in top condition.
The car’s two-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer, gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature, and warning lights. The car has been driven for only 75,000 kilometers (or about 47,000 miles), and while true mileage is unknown, the car has been well-maintained and cared for.
Powering the car is a 1,798cc inline-four engine, factory-rated at 82 horsepower. The engine features a side-draft carburetor and a blue-finished engine block, intake manifold, and valve cover. A fluid service was recently performed, and the air filter, fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, and ignition wires were all replaced under prior ownership. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The car is currently up for auction on the well-known automotive website, BringATrailer.com. Interested buyers have the opportunity to place bids on the vehicle until 1:29 p.m. EST on Sunday, March 26th. The auction is listed with no reserve, meaning that the highest bidder at the end of the auction will be able to purchase the car.
