AUCTION: 5K-Mile 500 HP 2010 Dodge Challenger SMS 570

Goes Across The Mecum Auction Block Today!

In 2007, Steve Saleen parted ways with the aftermarket tuning company he founded due to a disagreement with investors. Shortly thereafter, he established a new venture, SMS Supercars, with “SMS” standing for Steve Mark Saleen. While Saleen’s previous company primarily focused on enhancing the performance of Ford vehicles, SMS Supercars’ inaugural creation was a modified version of the 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T, which originally boasted a 5.7-liter (345 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 engine.

The journey of the SMS 570 Challenger began at SMS Supercars in Corona, California. There, the vehicle was meticulously disassembled and rebuilt using exclusive SMS components. Among these enhancements was the installation of an SMS 296 supercharger, featuring a Lysholm twin-screw compressor and SMS’ Six-Pack Intercooler system. This revolutionary intercooler design, consisting of six finned tubes, was touted by Saleen as being 60% more efficient than conventional counterparts of its time. Paired with a cold-air intake and a high-flow SMS exhaust system, the 570’s power output was significantly boosted to an impressive 500 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque, achieved at a modest 4.5 PSI of boost.

Beyond the engine upgrades, every SMS 570 underwent a comprehensive suspension overhaul, receiving new shocks, springs, and anti-roll bars. Additionally, the vehicle was fitted with distinctive SMS 20-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires sized at P275. The stock braking system was replaced with an upgraded 14-inch SMS setup at all four corners, featuring 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston units in the rear. Notably, this specific model boasts a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission.

The Challenger’s aesthetic appeal was further enhanced with the introduction of a unique hood, adorned with red butterflies adorning the power dome. These butterflies not only served a visual purpose but were also functional, contributing to “direct air injection,” as emphasized by Saleen.

Presented in its original TorRed factory paint, this remarkable vehicle is set to cross the auction block at Mecum Chattanooga 2023 on Friday, October 13th. Remarkably, it has only accumulated 5,068 miles on the odometer and stands as the sole exemplar of its kind among the limited production run of 18 units.
