Dodge’s foray into the SUV segment began with the first-generation in 1998 Dodge Durango. Thanks to sharing a lot of its styling cues with the popular Dakota midsized pickup, the Durango grew as equally popular in the initial SUV market boom.
This 1999 Dodge Durango SLT model recently showed up on the popular automotive auction site, BringATrailer.com. Painted in Chili Pepper Red, this particular one is equipped with a Shelby SP 360-style body kit, giving it an aggressive and sporty look.
The Durango rides on chrome-finished 17-inch KMC wheels that are wrapped in 255/55 Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 tires. The front suspension features tubular control arms, and the rear air suspension is from Air Lift Company, with Tokico rear shocks. The truck also features front disc brakes and rear drums with chrome-finished covers.
It is equipped with a supercharged 5.9-liter (360 cubic-inch) MAGNUM V8 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Instead of being powered by a Kenne Bell Blowzilla twin-screw supercharger, this one feature a Vortech supercharger and an ignition timing controller. Recent service under current ownership includes replacing the serpentine belt, oil dipstick, and battery and performing an oil change.
Inside, the Durango features a tan leather interior that appears to be in great condition. The front seats are power-adjustable, and air conditioning keeps you cool. The factory stereo has been upgraded with a Crossfire amplifier and an MTX subwoofer, and Pioneer speakers have been installed. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, voltage, oil pressure, and fuel level. A gauge for the rear air suspension is also mounted to the lower dashboard.
There is a plaque on the floor transfer case console stating that the vehicle was built for Carroll Shelby, however, no documentation confirming that claim is available.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage, and the truck has a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name. The truck is listed on BringATrailer.com with no reserve, and bidding ends on Tuesday, May 2nd at 2:22 p.m. EST.
