AUCTION: 1957 Plymouth Fury: A Classic Restored Beauty

Immaculate Restoration, Original Styling, and Vintage Performance...

A beautifully restored 1957 Plymouth Fury is currently up for auction on BringATrailer.com, with bidding ending on Friday, July 5, at 2:53 p.m. EDT. Originally sold in Montana, this classic two-door hardtop is a stunning example of mid-century American automotive design.

History and Ownership –

1957 Plymouth Fury. (BringATrailer).

This particular Fury was initially sold in Montana and spent three decades with its second owner before undergoing a significant refurbishment in 2000. Following the restoration, the car was relocated to Wyoming until the current seller purchased it in March 2024. The vehicle has a superseded 1962-issued Montana title and a clean Colorado title.

Exterior and Styling –

1957 Plymouth Fury. (BringATrailer).

Styled by Virgil Exner and based on the Plymouth Belvedere, the 1957 Fury was only available as a two-door hardtop. All 7,438 units produced that year were finished in Sand Dune White with Gold anodized trim. This car maintains its original color scheme and features Gold anodized exterior trim, chrome bumpers, fender-mounted mirrors, and reverse lights. Although the windshield wipers are not functional, and there is a scratch on the windshield, the car remains in impressive condition. During the 2000 refurbishment, the rocker and quarter panels were replaced before the car was repainted.

Wheels and Suspension –

The car sits on steel wheels adorned with gold-accented chrome covers and whitewall radial tires. The 1957 Fury had a 118-inch wheelbase and introduced Chrysler’s Torsion-Aire torsion-bar front suspension, which provided a smoother ride and improved handling. Braking is handled by 11-inch hydraulic drum brakes at all four corners.

Interior Features –

Inside, the Fury’s cabin was retrimmed in 2000 using upholstery from SMS Auto Fabrics. The front and rear bench seats are covered in beige vinyl with textured cloth inserts, complemented by brown carpeting and bright trim. The interior also features a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a clock, and a heater. However, the AM radio is not functional. The push-button transmission controls are located to the left of the instruments, adding a unique touch to the dash.

Dashboard and Instrumentation –

The two-tone steering wheel, featuring a chrome semi-circular horn ring, frames a 150-mph speedometer, a clock, and gauges for fuel level and engine temperature. Warning lights for oil pressure and amperage are also present. The five-digit odometer shows 16,000 miles, with approximately 100 miles added by the selling dealer. The car’s total mileage is unknown.

Engine and Performance –

1957 Plymouth Fury. (BringATrailer).

Under the hood, the 1957 Fury is powered by a 5.2-liter (318 cubic-inch) 4-barrel V8 engine, equipped with dual Carter four-barrel carburetors and topped with gold-finished air cleaners. This setup was factory-rated at 290 horsepower at 5,400 rpm. The engine was rebuilt during the 2000 refurbishment, ensuring it runs smoothly. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a push-button three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, which was also rebuilt during the refurbishment.
