Alfa Romeo Winds Down Gas-Powered Giulia and Stelvio Models
Italian Dealerships Prepare for the End of Gasoline Variants

Alfa Romeo has officially announced the end of gasoline-powered Giulia and Stelvio production, according to a memo sent to its Italian dealer network. With production winding down over the next year, the automaker is preparing for its transition to the next generation of Stelvio and Giulia models.

The performance-focused Giulia Quadrifoglio will be the first to end production on March 31, 2025, followed by the Stelvio Quadrifoglio on April 30, 2025. The gas-powered Sprint, Veloce, and Intensa trims will follow on May 31, 2025. After this date, only diesel versions of the Giulia and Stelvio will remain, though their future also seems limited.
The Quadrifoglio models were already discontinued from the North American market after the 2024 model year, making their continued availability in Europe a final chapter for these high-performance variants.
The European diesel-powered models feature the 2.2-liter JTDm Multijet II I4 engine, delivering 158 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. (450 Nm) of torque in the Italian market. In other regions, the engine produces 210 horsepower and 347 lb.-ft. (470 Nm) of torque. Both variations are equipped with an 8-speed ZF 8HP50 automatic transmission.

Notably, the Giulia Quadrifoglio has never been available with a manual transmission in the Italian market, and the manual option was short-lived in the U.S. due to low demand. Despite enthusiasts’ hopes, the take rate for the manual was just one percent when it was offered in 2016.
The rear-wheel-drive Giulia Quadrifoglio has long been a rival to performance sedans like the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C 63. Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) Stelvio Quadrifoglio uses a Magna-supplied transfer case, sending up to 60% of the torque to the front wheels in low-traction situations.
As Alfa Romeo gears up for the future, the next-generation Stelvio—built on the STLA Large platform—is set to debut on June 24, 2025, marking the company’s 115th anniversary. According to Alfa Romeo top brass, the next-generation Stelvio and Giulia will offer all-electric, hybrid, and gasoline options, providing a diverse range of powertrains for the evolving market.

The end of the gasoline-powered Giulia and Stelvio models marks the end of an important era in the life of the Alfa Romeo brand. Fans of the brand’s iconic performance vehicles will no doubt savor these final months of production.
