Jeep® Recalls 320,065 4xe PHEVs Over Battery Fire Risk

Owners Urged to Park Outdoors and Suspend Charging Until Fix Arrives

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) has announced a major safety recall affecting an estimated 320,065 Jeep® plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs across the United States due to a potential battery fire risk. The recall covers 2020–2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models, both powered by a high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack that may fail internally and ignite while parked or driving.

What’s Going On –

According to Stellantis, in rare cases, the battery pack may contain cells with separator damage. This separator damage, when combined with other internal chemical or thermal interactions, can cause the high-voltage battery to short-circuit and catch fire.

Because the fire risk remains whether the vehicle is parked or being driven, owners are being strongly advised not to recharge their vehicles and to park them outdoors, away from buildings, garages, or other vehicles until the issue is resolved.

FCA US has confirmed that vehicle risk is reduced when the battery charge level is depleted, but until a permanent remedy is available, the company is urging all owners to follow this precautionary guidance immediately.

Affected Models and Production Dates –

Vehicle 1: Jeep Wrangler 4xe (2020–2025)

  • Production Dates: July 1, 2020 – August 25, 2025

  • Estimated Units Affected: 228,221

  • These vehicles may have been built with high-voltage battery cells that are susceptible to separator damage, potentially leading to thermal runaway and fire.

Vehicle 2: Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (2022–2026)

  • Production Dates: July 23, 2021 – October 15, 2025

  • Estimated Units Affected: 91,844

  • Similar to the Wrangler 4xe, these vehicles use a Samsung SDI-supplied high-voltage battery that may include cells at risk for internal failure.

In total, 320,065 vehicles in the U.S. are part of this recall. Additional affected units include roughly 20,753 in Canada, 2,653 in Mexico, and about 32,238 in other global markets.

Recall Chronology –

  • On July 3, 2025, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation after receiving reports of fires originating from the high-voltage (HV) battery in certain Jeep Wrangler PHEVs and Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEVs outside the scope of FCA US Recall ID 95B (NHTSA ID 24V-720) (“95B”), as well as reports of fires originating from the HV battery pack in vehicles which had already received the 95B remedy.

  • Samsung SDI obtained a battery pack from a vehicle that experienced an HV battery fire with cells manufactured outside the scope of 95B. After fully analyzing the battery pack, Samsung SDI determined the fire was caused by the same defect reported in the previous 95B campaign and has been working to identify additional factors potentially relating to the root cause.

  • As of October 13, 2025, FCA US has received nine (9) reports of fires originating from the HV battery in Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles that had already received the 95B remedy software. FCA US determined the 95B remedy is ineffective at detecting certain abnormalities within the HV battery that may lead to a fire.

  • As of October 13, 2025, FCA US is aware of ten (10) fires originating from HV batteries containing cells manufactured outside the scope of 95B. Samsung SDI has stated the most likely root cause is separator damage combined with other complex interactions within the cell. FCA US and Samsung SDI continue to investigate potential factors relating to root cause.

  • As of October 13, 2025, FCA US is aware of nineteen (19) customer assistance records, zero (0) warranty claims, and nineteen (19) field reports potentially relating to this issue for all markets, with dates of receipt ranging from January 27, 2025, to September 2, 2025.

  • As of October 13, 2025, FCA US is aware of one (1) injury and zero (0) accidents potentially related to this issue for all markets.

  • On October 24, 2025, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a defect affecting motor vehicle safety potentially exists in all affected vehicles.

Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. The remedy is currently under development. Interim notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed December 2, 2025.

Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is 68C. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning November 6, 2025. Vehicles that were previously recalled for the same issue under NHTSA Recalls 24V720 and 23V787 will need to have the new remedy performed.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
