2019 Ram Heavy Duty LED Head Lamps Will Light Up The Night:
Full LED Lighting Makes Its Way To The Heavy Duty Lineup...
We have had a mix bag of e-mails lately. Some are praising the fact that Ram Trucks has chosen to upgrade the existing Ram Heavy Duty lineup for the upcoming model year. While others are upset that the updated Ram Heavy Duty trucks are not based on the all-new 5th generation 2019 Ram 1500.
The 4.5 generation Ram Heavy Duty as we are calling it, have blended what people loved about the 4th generation Ram Trucks lineup with the all-new 2019 Ram 1500.
The number one thing people are praising about the updated Heavy Duty has to be the interior. But what is the second? The new updated LED lighting. Yes, while we have shown you that even the budget friendly Tradesman models look to be getting optional LED lighting, we have been getting a lot of e-mail asking just how much of an improvement are the new LED head lamps over the outgoing halogen head lamps. While we haven’t driven the truck yet, we can’t answer that obviously.
However, our friends at Real Fast Fotography have caught the updated Ram Heavy Duty models testing in dense fog and it gives us an idea of just how good the new lighting is. The new full-LED head lamps really light up the road surface well.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, we believe that just like the 2019 Ram 1500, the updated Ram Heavy Duty will be equipped on its upper trim levels like the Laramie Longhorn and Limited with full LED with Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) head lamps.
Recently, the Ram 1500 received poor ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) due to it’s LED head lamps giving off too much glare to oncoming traffic. Since the updated Heavy Duty models feature completely different head lamps, the results will vary. But these photos provided to us, show little glare to the camera in the dense Michigan fog.
We do know like the Ram 1500, the LED fog lamps will shut the opposing side off while turning with the turn signal on. Meaning if the turn signal is on while making a right turn, only the right side fog light will remain on while the turn signal is active. This allows the fog lamps to used as extra light while turning. While some people love the feature, those who do not can simply turn the option off in your settings menu on the Uconnect touchscreen.
We can’t wait to get our hands on one of these updated Heavy Duty models. They will be arriving around March at Ram dealers in certain trims, while all trim levels being ramped up for production around June.
