BREAKDOWN: 2019 Ram Heavy Duty Interior:

We See What Is Inside The New Heavy Duty Ram...

We have been reporting for some time about the new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty trucks getting a similar interior to the all-new 5th generation 2019 Ram 1500. Now we are getting our first look of what lies in store for Heavy Duty buyers for the new model year. For the first time, we now have interior shots of the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty without having the black camouflage over the dash, and it is giving us a lot of new information.

While the layout looks very similar to the all-new 2019 Ram 1500’s dash layout, it’s a bit different. For this 4.5 generation of the Ram Heavy Duty, the column shifter stays, those that were worried the HD would gain the rotary shifter have nothing to worry about.

As we take a look at the steering wheel, at first glance, it looks like it is straight out of the parts bin of the 2019 Ram 1500. However, after having a closer look, we noticed that the steering wheel buttons are different. The steering wheel buttons look to be very similar to the layout of the current 4th generation Ram trucks. Instead of the 2019 Ram 1500’s arrow pad with an “OK” button in the middle, the format looks identical to the layout size of the 2013 to 2018 Heavy Duty buttons. However, now they appear to be in a rubberized material and not like the current firm plastic.

In one shot, we get a good look at the side of the interior door panel. We see that this 2019 Ram Heavy Duty Laramie’s door panel looks very similar to the door panels on the 2019 Ram 1500. There is a chrome strip the runs on an upwards slant above the door handle, unlike the 2018 Ram Heavy Duty Laramie which has a chrome strip that ends before the door handle. It also receives french stitching lower on the door panel from the window than the outgoing models too, a characteristic of the 5th generation Ram 1500.

While this Laramie model is equipped with the 4th generation 8.4-inch Uconnect Touchscreen, the first thing you can notice is the knobs for the infotainment system. Styled just like the ones on the all-new Ram 1500, these knobs have notches designed for easier use with gloves, for buyers who use their trucks for business as a work truck.

Next, we see the dash will have the same opening pattern that the 1500 has around its rotary shifter location. The 2019 Ram Heavy Duty makes good use of the space for the 4×4 control buttons. These buttons look much bigger than the ones found on the 1500, again another great thing for people who drive with thick gloves on.

We can also see that this particular model has toggle switches instead of AUX buttons like previous interior pictures that a 2019 Ram Heavy Duty prototype was spotted with.  Many people wrote to us, telling us how disappointed they were that toggle switches weren’t going to be in the Heavy Duty interior, but here they are. The bank of 5 available AUX buttons and one PTO button will be an option on all Ram Heavy Duty models.

Ram has also put in the center console from the all-new Ram 1500 as well. The reimagined center console, with its wider docking area, offers an all-new optional integrated wireless charging pad that can hug a small tablet or multiple smartphones. To keep devices charged, there are five USB ports (three are in front of the center console, and two are in the back). Three of the USB ports are fully functioning and communicate with the Uconnect interface while the other two USB ports are charge only. Four of the five USB ports are new type C/A ports that allow devices to be charged up to four times faster than standard USB outlets. The remaining USB is type A.

The dash also will get the Ram 1500’s redesigned upper glove box as well. On lower trim levels, the upper glove box will act as an open shelf for smaller items. However, on upper trim level trucks, the upper glove box will be covered and will feature a button that opens the glove box door upwards and hides it in the dash.

One more thing we would like to talk about is the new A-pillar grab handles. They have been completely redesigned for the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty. These new grab handles are more angular than the ones found on the outgoing truck. The handles themselves appear to be bigger. So if you have large hands or again gloves, you should feel a lot more comfortable climbing into the cab of the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty.
