Among Mopar enthusiasts, few cars carry as much mystique as the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. With its towering rear wing and pointed nose cone, it was built with one goal in mind: winning on NASCAR’s superspeedways. Today, these aero warriors are considered holy grails of muscle car collecting. One such example recently emerged from long-term ownership, bringing with it a story as compelling as the car itself.
Five Decades Under One Roof –

Purchased new in 1969 by its first owner, a woman who drove it regularly for about three years. By the time it was parked in 1973, the odometer read just over 34,000 miles. From there, the car’s life took a quieter turn, spending decades tucked under a carport on the family property.
Its survival wasn’t without drama. At one point, the car was stolen, though it was quickly recovered thanks to the efforts of the original owner’s son. Despite years of exposure to the elements, the car managed to avoid catastrophic rust, which would prove crucial years later when the family decided it was worth saving.
A Painstaking Restoration –

In 2006, more than thirty years after it was last on the road, the family launched a full restoration effort. Over the course of four years, the Daytona was restored to its original condition, adhering to factory specifications. By 2010, the car was once again roadworthy and began making appearances at Mopar shows nationwide, where it remained a fixture in the hobby for over a decade.
Unfortunately, a trailer mishap in 2024 left damage to the driver’s side rear quarter panel. After half a century of stewardship, the family decided it was time to pass the car along to a new caretaker.
A New Chapter With Mopars5150 –

That caretaker turned out to be Troy Bergeron of Mopars5150, a familiar name in the enthusiast community. Bergeron wasted no time getting the car back into the spotlight. Just two days after the purchase, he unveiled it at the 2025 Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. YouTube personality Lou Costabile was on hand to film a detailed walkaround, giving enthusiasts around the world a first look at the car’s latest chapter.
