We are now in the third model year of the new DT body Ram, which from my experience is a huge upgrade over the old DS body. Yet, the 2500/3500 trucks are still using the old and outdated platform, with "lipstick on the pig" to make them resemble the new trucks somewhat.

Anybody know when Ram is finally going to move the HD trucks to the DT body?

Its not. The updated 2023 Ram HD models will continue with the same 4th gen cab and chassis.

Public statements from American Axle gives contradiction to HD RAM
''On a separate note and ITE related, we're also pleased to share that we've secured a next generation RAM heavy duty pickup truck business with [indiscernible] into the next decade. [indiscernible] has been a great partner to AAM over the years and we look forward to extending our recently beneficial relationship. This award coupled with the current business that we employ today with [indiscernible] exceed several billion dollar in sales as a key foundational program for AAM. This program along with other customer next-generation program awards will support solid cash flow performance for many years to come for AAM. These are all key developments as we leverage our strong core business to support our electrification technologies as we work to bring the future faster.''
American Axle awarded axle & driveshaft contract for next gen RAM HD....Moving to Warren so Saltillo can make 1500?
Why go through new core components on a refresh?

@Bili , @TripleT Or has ''Le Cost killing'' stuck a program in North America thanks to ''Pepe Le El Cheapo'' .

As far as I know it will stay in Saltillo. Warren Truck will continue to build the Ram 1500 Classic until 2024 alongside the Wagoneer twins. After, the Durango should join the mix as it will go to BoF. Warren Truck will also more than likely be used as an overflow Ram 1500 producer, as production of the Ram 1500 Classic will end and Ram 1500 will be more in demand globally.

The 2023 Ram HD models will use the same platform codes as the current model, which also share the same codes with the 2011 models. The 2023 model will get new looks and new tech but be the same platform vehicles. DJ = 2500, D2 = 3500 DD = 3500 Chassis DP = 4500/5500 just like the 2019 refresh.

Question (well big question) 1500 RAM DT will also be refreshed, too with the DT Chassis being renamed ''STLA Frame'' and RAM 1500 EV get launch? Stellantis Annual Stockholder General meeting1619577888100.png

Thing about BOF is you can do rolling evolution pretty easily. They can make subtle improvements. Material changes, or a entirely new Frame, as long as they keep the hard point and build points common and clearances maintained.

Any word if Ram will follow GM and Ford with increasing the GVWR on the sticker for the 2500 to get more payload in the 3/4 ton lineup? Specifically need this for the Cummins. I am thinking they need to do this to match Ford and GM but may hold off until they have only the single 5th gen CC option and not two options in the 4th gen with the CC and MC. Doesn't makes sense for them to wait though, they have the axle capacity to increase GVWR and payload right now. Ram's 2500 axle ratings combined are 500 lbs more than the F-250 yet their GVWR is 800 lbs less. I am looking at a new 2022 Ford F-250 with the 10,800 GVWR for this reason. 2800+ payload with the 6.7L diesel in the F-250.

I agree with you. A lot of the Ram 2500 trucks with the Cummins engine are in the 2,000 lbs. payload range. That's 1/2 ton truck territory these days. Not acceptable in my opinion. The 6.4L Hemi is also getting long in the tooth. 429 lb/ft of torque was good a decade ago. Today it's not acceptable. Hell, my Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel is rated higher than that.

So Ram does need to do a lot of catching up in the HD truck war. That's for sure. Having said that, if you're shopping Ford Super Duty, why not go F-350? On the Ford, there is virtually no difference between 250 and 350 except an additional spring in the rear spring pack. It's not like on the Ram where they're two different designs. In the Ford, there's no reason to get the 250.

Ram should be able to step ahead in the areas they are behind at the next refresh given the time they’ve had to work on it.

I’d go F250 over F350 simply for ride quality. The 2800-ish payload likely would be fine for what I’d ever need it for.
But I may go 3500 with air suspension to stay with the mega cab (I love my current 2006 MC). Then I’d have enough payload for ANYTHING I’d ever expect to do, short of a huge 5er. The ride would be probably roughly same as F-250, or maybe just a little stiffer, given the softer spring pack paired with the supplemental bags.

I like that the F-250 appears/feels smaller from the driver’s seat. The 3500 MC feels HUGE compared to my 2006, and that’s simply due to the hood being basically FLAT now and more like a cliff than ever before. The F-250 feels bigger than my 06 but not overly so. Trucks have grown UP so much in 15 years!

It's been several months. Is there any new info? Does it still look like the 4th Gen body will continue for the HD pickups into 2023?

Yes, it will continue to look like the 4th gen. It will have a new front fascia and even new towing mirrors from what I have heard.

Hey redriderbob, any info if any you can give about Ram getting a upgraded transmission? I drove a 2022 Ford with the 10 speed and I must say they did a great job.
Ram needs a better transmission and only ONE for both the 2500 and 3500 not this crap they do right now with three different options IMO.

( Of course an Eaton 9 or 12 speed would be my dream. )

How old is that speculation?
Almost 3 years, however so long as it happens I will be happy but if not Ram will be far behind both GM and Ford trucks it terms of both power and transmissions as they both have a ten speed and the same power for both the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks not this silly
three different options for three trucks like Ram. (And I like Rams but facts are facts)

They need to do the Allison 9 speed. We don’t want the ZF, Allison it is and overnight game changer. Ram leaps to the head of the pack again with an old cab.
