This past weekend, we got a chance to attend the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Design Cars + Coffee event at the former Walter P. Chrysler Museum grounds. The FCA Design team brought out five vehicles from its specialty vehicle collection. One of those vehicles was the 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn “Low Down” Concept from this past year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show.
One of two Ram vehicles shown at the SEMA show from Mopar, we already had a chance to see the 2019 Mopar-modified Ram 1500 Rebel Concept at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), but now it was to see the street-oriented Low Down Concept. The Ram 1500 Big Horn Low Down Concept is slammed-to-the-street style and unique, clean exterior flourishes.
Low Down is built on the Ram 1500 mid-level Big Horn trim and features a custom “Brassphault” color palette with the upper half of the truck’s body painted in Gloss Black and the lower half is painted in Bright Silver. A thin Brass Monkey-colored stripe wraps around the truck, serving as both an accent point and a dividing line between the two colors.
The truck includes a concept Mopar performance hood with a ram-air scoop in highlighted in Gloss Black. All of the Ram and Big Horn exterior badging was colored in Gloss Black. Special black “Low Down” badging was added to front doors of the truck. Low Down also features concept Mopar wheel flares with accent bolts, while the bed of the truck is covered with a one-piece Mopar hard tonneau cover in Gloss Black. Out the back 5-inch Gloss Black exhaust tips stick out the rear of the truck, under the rear bumper. The headlights and tail lamps feature black accents from the Big Horn Black model.
The Low Down Concept was dropped 2-inches, using a prototype Mopar lowering kit. The lowering kit adds a more aggressive stance and appearance to the already sharp looking Ram 1500. The 22-inch aluminum wheels are off of the Laramie Sport and Laramie Black models, however, this time instead of being Granite Crystal color they are painted Gloss Black with Brass Monkey-colored accents. The wheels blend into the “Brassphault” scheme of the rest of the truck.
Inside, Low Down features Mopar all-weather mats, brushed and polished door sill guards that feature the R-A-M text logo, and a set of concept bright pedal kit was highlighted.
Under the hood, the Low Down Concept features the standard 5.7-liter HEMI V8. The HEMI is enhanced by a Mopar “Ram Airflow” cold-air intake system that gets air directly from the ram-air style scoop on the top of the concept performance hood. The system features a direct air intake with the R-A-M logo molded on the scoop. Ram never released any details on the improvement in power, that the concept hood brings.
We really like the look of the Low Down Concept, it is making us think we should take a similar direction with modifying our long-term 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Sport. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
