Today, a select group of auto journalist got their chance to see some of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) 2020 model year lineup at the annual “FCA What’s New Event” at the Chelsea Proving Grounds, in Chelsea, Michigan. It was there, that we got to see Tim Kuniskis make his first public appearance after being renamed as the Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. The biggest news of the day was the debut of the 707 horsepower 2020 Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody and 485 horsepower 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody.
While we covered the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody earlier today, along with its race car counterpart, we will be talking about the new 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody, tomorrow. But for those of you who didn’t get a chance to see the event live, you can now watch the unveiling, below.
While we were shocked about not seeing an all-new Charger SRT HELLCAT Redeye Widebody, Kuniskis did mention that today’s debut was the “step one” in rectifying the public’s reaction to the Challenger getting all of the performance upgrades last year. That might be a good hint, that the SRT HELLCAT Redeye model will be coming later.
“People say, ‘no one wants cars anymore.’ I would tell you that the 40,000 people who bought a Dodge Charger so far this year would probably agree, because to them, the Charger isn’t just a car. The Charger’s reach extends beyond body-style practicalities and it can’t be defined by average industry shifts,” said Kuniskis. “Can you buy a vehicle that is dollar for dollar more practical than a Charger Widebody? Absolutely, but there are also more than 1,000 flavors of ice cream and vanilla is only one of them. If the ‘average’ person will own six cars in their lifetime, our cars need to connect so strongly that people can’t help, but turn around and take a second look before walking away.”
Both the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody and 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody will be available to order this fall, with deliveries starting early 2020.
