Driver Does 198mph On Public Highway...

A Raleigh, North Carolina man is making headlines after taking his 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT on a high-speed run on public roads. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, they arrested 22-year-old William Jefferson after a viral video of top-speed run of his HELLCAT went viral.

Williams, hit a top-speed of 198 mph on US-1 back in July. A video was made of the Wake County, North Carolina run and posted to social platforms Facebook and YouTube. It didn’t take long for someone to tip-off authorities about Williams’ late-night exploits.

In the video, Williams is shown boasting to his audience, “198, boys and girls, it’s a true HELLCAT.” The video then shows the top-speed recorder in the car’s gauge cluster reading 198 mph. The 2015 to 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT has a top-speed according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) of 199 mph.

To make things worse for Williams, the video shows the stretch of that he did he run in had a posted speed limit of 40 mph. That was enough evidence for Williams’ arrest. He is currently charged street racing and reckless driving and is due to appear in court on September 4th.

Investigators have asked for a warrant to search Jefferson’s cell phone for additional evidence, according to The News Observer.
