Vigilante 4×4 Reveals First All-Electric Jeep® (SJ) Chassis

Vigilante 4×4, the Texas-based builder renowned for its premium Jeep® SJ restomods, has officially unveiled its first all-electric Wagoneer (SJ) chassis. Known for restoring and reengineering vintage Jeep models with modern HEMI® powertrains, Vigilante’s latest project marks a significant step toward electrified performance while preserving the soul of classic American design.

The debut represents more than just an electric conversion—it’s a complete redesign. Vigilante 4×4 started with a blank slate, utilizing precise 3D scans of original Wagoneers, Grand Wagoneers, Cherokees, and J-Trucks to create a new chassis architecture specifically engineered for electric propulsion. The battery pack sits low and centered under the vehicle to achieve an ideal weight balance and lower center of gravity, crucial for improving handling and stability.

“This is not a replacement for our Vigilante HEMI offerings,” the company stated. “It’s a total revisit of the Vigilante platform under electric power.” That reimagining extends to every key component beneath the body.

Purpose-Built Electric Platform –

Unlike most EV conversions that simply swap out an engine for motors, Vigilante’s new platform eliminates the need for transmissions, transfer cases, and driveshafts. Power is delivered directly to the wheels through a dual-motor system—one mounted in the front and one in the rear—providing permanent four-wheel drive (4×4). The layout is designed to ensure both performance and simplicity, minimizing mechanical losses while maintaining the off-road capability Jeep vehicles are known for.

The chassis employs independent front and rear suspension, paired with FOX™ shocks for modern ride quality and control. Large six-piston brakes provide the necessary stopping power to manage instant electric torque. Additional EV-focused technologies include regenerative braking, dual charging ports, and advanced cooling systems, reflecting Vigilante’s commitment to performance, reliability, and safety.

Classic Form, Modern Function –

While the mechanical foundation is new, the brand’s approach to design remains deeply rooted in tradition. The electric Wagoneer chassis retains the proportions and stance that defined Jeep’s original SJ lineup while integrating 21st-century performance beneath its vintage silhouette.

The company emphasized that this is still an early prototype, but the response from enthusiasts has already been strong. Vigilante intends to refine the concept further before production begins. “Keep in mind this is our first prototype,” the company said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done—but the journey has begun.”

By merging the craftsmanship of its gasoline-powered builds with next-generation electric technology, Vigilante 4×4 continues to evolve the definition of the classic Jeep. The electric Wagoneer platform shows that innovation and authenticity can coexist—delivering both nostalgia and progress in equal measure.
