Stellantis Idles Production At Its Tychy Assembly Plant In Poland!

Semiconductor Woes Hit The FCA Poland Plant For The Third Time This Month...

Stellantis has announced that production at its Tychy Assembly Plant in Poland, has shut down once again. It marks the third time that a shutdown has happened this month. The plant currently assembles the second-generation Fiat 500, 500C, Abarth 595, 595C, 695, & Lancia Ypsilon city cars

The first two shutdowns only lasted two days each (March 1st to 2nd & March 7th & 8th). But the latest shutdown will last until Monday, March 21st.

The reason behind the shutdown is due to the limited availability of semiconductor chips and various electrical components used on the lineups of city cars. The Tychy plant also suffered several shutdowns during the last summer as well, because of the ongoing semiconductor issues.

“People who work in factories don’t have to worry about their jobs. We have two security mechanisms. If possible, pending holidays are used. In the event that this option cannot be used and people are ready to work, we pay the downtime, which is the equivalent of around 80% of the salary, ” stated FCA Poland spokesperson Rafał Grzanecki said in a release.

On an important note, the Tychy plant will be home to the next-generation B-segment electrified vehicles like the recently announced battery-electric (BEV) Jeep® “Junior” B-SUV. The new subcompact Jeep will join a new Fiat 500e 5-door model and the all-new Alfa Romeo Brenner, that we recently talked about. All three vehicles will receive both electrified and internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains. The Jeep model will be the first of three to start production at the plant at the end of this year, while the Fiat and Alfa Romeo models will kick off production in 2023.
