RECALL: 2021 Ram 1500 Models With Trailer Reverse Steering Controls:

Rearview Camera Image May Not Display...

Stellantis (FCA US) is recalling certain 2021 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with a trailer reverse steering module (TRSCM). The rearview camera image may not display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”

Trailer Reverse Steering Module (TRSM) Switch. (Ram).

The suspect period began on June 12th, 2020, when 2021 MY vehicle production began, and ended on April 16th, 2021, when updated software was implemented in vehicle production. The suspect period was determined using vehicle production records. Vehicles not included in this recall are not equipped with a TRSCM and standard rearview camera or were built after the suspect period.

In situations, the vehicle operator will notice that the rearview image is not displayed if attempting to reference the image while backing. If this warning is not heeded, backing without verifying it is safe to do so could lead to an increased risk of injury to people outside the vehicle.

According to the recall, 14,096 vehicles are affected.

Recall Chronology :

  • On May 19th, 2021, based on testing and analysis, FCA US found that when the TRSCM fails to power down
successfully, the rearview camera image may not display on the subsequent key cycle during a backing event,
    as required by FMVSS 111.
  • On June 3rd, 2021, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary
safety recall of the affected vehicles.

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to update the TRSCM software. FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
