The 2022 Jeep® Grand Wagoneer Will Be The Most Luxurious Vehicle From Brand Yet!

Could Easily Reach $100,000 Price Tag...

Originally announced to make a return back in 2011 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the return of the legendary Jeep® Wagoneer nameplate. Since the announcement, there has been a lot of changes both in design and engineering for the vehicle. Fast forward nine long years and the Jeep brand is finally getting ready to pull the covers off of its premium-halo SUV.

The new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer (WS) will be riding on the same architecture as the current Ram 1500 (DT) full-size pickups. It also means the new Wagoneer twins will be full-size body-on-frame SUVs and much larger than the upcoming 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL) and its new three-row variant that will fill-out the E-segment of the Jeep brand’s SUV lineup.

Since late 2016, rumors have been circulating that the upcoming Grand Wagoneer could offer a premium trim-level reaching as high as $100,000. With vehicle offerings like the Cadillac Escalade and GMC XL Denali from General Motors (GM) and premium offerings from the Ford Motor Company’s Lincoln brand with the Lincoln Navigator L Black Label (which has a $100,000 starting price), we wouldn’t be surprised that such a premium model would be out of reach for the Jeep brand.

Jeep has been doing a pretty good job with closely guarding the Wagoneer, but thanks to our sources, we are hearing the new Grand Wagoneer will not only be the most luxurious and technologically advanced vehicle yet from the brand but for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) as well.

Starting with infotainment, the Grand Wagoneer will offer a 12-inch Uconnect infotainment screen that is frameless. The system will, of course, be equipped with the company’s new Uconnect 5 software and will be accompanied by a new passenger-side entertainment that will allow the passenger to have their own screen to customize and be able to access various applications while on the road. A new rear-seat entertainment system will also be available and will build upon the successful Uconnect Theater system found in the current Chrysler Pacifica. The Grand Wagoneer will also feature the new Uconnect heads up display system, coming to several vehicles in the FCA lineup in 2022.

As far as the instrument panel, we are hearing the use of aluminum, premium wood, and leather will cover a lot of the surfaces. The standard gauges will be replaced by an all-new fully-customizable digital cluster that will seamlessly work with the heads up display as well. We are also being told that the new Grand Wagoneer will feature a new electronic rearview mirror system (like what is found in several premium GM vehicles).

The Grand Wagoneer will also have a Level 3 autonomy capabilities, allowing the vehicle to drive on the highway with limited input from the driver. You can also expect other new advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like Lane Keep Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, driver attention alert, Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, highway assist system, traffic jam assist system, and traffic sign recognition as standard equipment similar to what was introduced this year on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia models.

For the first time ever, the all-new Grand Wagoneer will also feature a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option. This will allow the Grand Wagoneer to run solely on battery power for around an estimated 30 miles we are being told. The system will use the new ZF-sourced 8HP hybrid transmission which will also be under the hood of the upcoming Wrangler Unlimited 4xe. Like the Wrangler, the Grand Wagoneer will also feature the 4xe nameplate but it will debut about a year after the standard Grand Wagoneer makes its debut.

Nevertheless, the upcoming 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be the most technologically advanced vehicle from the iconic off-road premium SUV brand. While it may not feature the exterior wood trim that made it famous during the 1980s, the Grand Wagoneer will set the standard for the premium SUV market.
