AUCTION: 2004 Dodge Viper VOI 8 “Toxic” Competition Coupe!

Scheme Designed By Ralph Gilles...

We have seen a number of awesome Vipers come up for sale in recent months and this one is no exception. The Dodge Viper Competition Coupe was based on the Dodge Viper GTS/R Concept Car introduced at the 2001 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and offered Viper enthusiasts a factory-built track-ready chassis bred from the 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Roadster.

A total of 132 Competition Coupes were produced with 125 cars original built, 5 prototypes, and 2 “Series II” cars produced in 2008, this 2004 model is said to be 1 of 3 examples produced for the Viper Owner’s Invitational (VOI). Each of the VOI cars wore a different paint scheme conceived by then Chrysler designer Ralph Gilles, who now is the Head of Stellantis Design.

Known as chassis “C59” the car features an Orange and Black livery with strobe-effect stripes and was given the name “Toxic” by Gilles. According to the seller, the car has never been used in competition. It has, however, been the centerpiece to many Competition Coupe diecast models over the years.

Wearing 18-inch polished modular wheels wrapped with Hoosier racing rubber, the Competition Coupe features air jacks, 4-piston Brembo brake calipers with front air ducts, and Moton remote-reservoir adjustable coil-overs.

Inside, the race car cockpit features a full FIA-approved roll cage, a fire-suppression system, Simpson harness, a Hurst short-throw shifter, an Odyssey battery, a dash-mounted switch panel, a Motec beacon receiver, and a single Racetech halo-style racing seat. A 3-spoke Alpha steering wheel is mounted to a quick-release hub and frames a Motec digital display. The seller states the display says the car has 68 miles on it, while the total mileage is unknown.

There is also a unique dash plaque on the passenger side of the dash to mark the special edition model.

Under the hood, is an 8.3-liter (505 cubic inch) VIPER V-10. As a non-street legal race car, without the standard emissions equipment and higher lift camshaft, the V-10 produced 520 horsepower and 540 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-10 is mated to a 6-speed Tremec T-56 manual transmission with power being sent to a Dana 44 rear axle with Ricardo limited-slip differential and a 3.07:1 axle ratio.
