Renegade & Compass Control SUV Segment In Jeep Second-Biggest Global Market...

The Jeep® brand comes in 2021 as the market’s SUV leader for the fifth consecutive year. In 2020, the brand made up a total of 7.5% of the country’s total market share, marking a new record for the American brand. The Brazilian-built Jeep models of the Renegade and Compass continue to control the SUV segment. The Jeep Renegade is the overall SUV sales leader for the country, while every 7 out of 10 C-segment SUVs sold are Compass models.

In January, the country had 12,127 people register new Jeep vehicles. This meant that the American automaker managed to obtain 25.3% of the SUV market share for the entire country. It was the second-best performance ever recorded by the brand, which had a 25.8% share in December 2016 when the Compass was launched and there were far fewer competitors in the SUV segment than as well.

SUVs remain the fastest-growing segment in Brazil and the Jeep Renegade was developed to reinvent the global SUV segment. Initially launched worldwide in Europe in 2014, the Renegade became an integral part of the puzzle for Jeep in the Brazilian market the following year. The smallest Jeep offering allowed 4×4 capability and the adventurous lifestyle for which Jeep is known, to markets that may have been out of reach previously.

The Renegade while topping the SUV segment in January, was the fourth most popular vehicle overall. The B-segment SUV sold 7,091 units which was 4.36% of the entire market share against all vehicles sold during the month. It was a new record for the Renegade.

While an updated Jeep Compass will be coming to the market soon, the current Compass is showing it too is a success for the brand. In the front month of this year, the C-segment SUV sold 5,029 units giving it 3.1% of the entire market share of all vehicles in the country. In the C-segment, the Compass ranked first with 69.2% of the segment. That was down from December’s record of 69.9% for sales in the segment.

“Jeep keeps growing and the numbers prove it. Being the leader of an increasingly competitive market such as SUVs and still having the most commercialized vehicle in the segment reflects the efforts of different areas”, said Everton Kurdejak, director of Jeep Commercial Operations in Brazil. “It is also worth saying that this year we will have great news, in order to obtain even more relevant results”, added Alexandre Aquino, Director of Jeep for Latin America.

Brazil is the second biggest market for the Jeep brand in the world, so it is no surprise the Jeep is hard at work developing a new three-row SUV based on the Compass that will slot in the low D-segment. That vehicle (codenamed H1) will start production later this year in August in Brazil. It will also be produced in India and will be focused on those two markets.
