DON’T CALL IT A TRX: Ram 1500 RHO Is Coming In 2024

540 Horsepower Performance Off-Roader, Confirmed To Be Coming In Q3 2024...

While Ram has pulled the covers off of its 2025 Ram 1500 (DT) lineup, one model was absent from the reveal. Ram has made it no secret that the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX will mark an end to the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® HELLCAT V8 under the hood of its performance off-roader. It recently announced a limited production run of Final Edition models, a farewell to the supercharged monster.

But while Ram has been quiet about its plans for the TRX nameplate, there has been a lot of activity around the streets of Metro Detroit with camouflaged prototypes matching the TRX’s hardware running around. In the past weeks, we even had a good video clip of the new truck clearly showing the sound of the new twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane (H/O) I6 under the hood.

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis did give a nod to what is coming for the brand very soon with regards to a new off-roader. In the reveal, it was announced that a new RHO model with a 540-horsepower Hurricane H/O under the hood would join the lineup in Q3 2024 to reinforce the brand’s off-road and performance truck lineup. At the same time, one of those camouflaged prototypes was shown running through the Arizona desert at high speed for a brief second.

So what does this mean? It means that Ram will give us a Hurricane H/O-powered off-road truck, using most of the off-road technology we have come to love in the current TRX. It also means that the TRX name will be saved for something special, which Kuniskis hinted at in the video by saying, “Maybe even someday, a new TRX.”

Our sources have indicated that Stellantis is working on an even more powerful Hurricane engine, confirmed by Micky Bly, Stellantis’ Senior Vice President and Head of Global Propulsion Systems, at a recent conference in Detroit.

Undoubtedly, a new TRX would have to match or surpass the performance characteristics of the outgoing model. Former Ram CEO, now Head of Mopar North America, Mike Koval Jr., said the possibility of an electrified Ram TRX in the future isn’t out of the question earlier this year.

With Kuniskis back at the helm of Ram, we think he is a good fit to bring even more performance to the pickup brand. Even in his reveal presentation, Kuniskis, still the Dodge brand CEO, referred to the muscle car brand several times. Could this mean a more blended performance lineup with Dodge in the future? We don’t know yet.

Nevertheless, the RHO will preserve the core of the TRX nameplate without erasing what Ram has built as the apex predator in the off-road market. This news should keep the TRX enthusiasts happy.
