Maserati Teases New Grecale SUV In Latest Images:

Maserati has released the brand’s first teaser images of its all-new midsized Grecale SUV, in a similar fashion to what the Italian premium brand did leading up to the debut of its MC20 super sports-car last year. Some blurred images of the new SUV were shot outside the historic Maserati plant on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena. Maserati let their employees released the images first on various social media networks last night.

Named after the fierce north-east wind of the Mediterranean Sea, the new SUV will wear the Grecale name. It follows a long-standing practice of naming its cars after the world’s most famous winds. It all began in 1963, with the legendary Mistral. This was followed by Ghibli, Bora, Merak, and Khamsin.

The all-new Maserati Grecale will utilize the Giorgio-architecture that currently underpins Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Back in September, we saw spy photos of a few Alfa Romeo Stelvio-bodied mules wearing a Maserati grille under heavy black vinyl camouflage. The photos now confirm that production-bodied prototypes are now undergoing intensive on-road testing.

Sources close to MoparInsiders.com are indicating that the base engine for the Grecale will be the same as the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid, a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder from the FCA Global Medium Engine (GME) family. Power should be identical with 330 horsepower and torque of 450 Nm (332 ft.-lb) delivered from just 1,500 rpm. The 2.0-liter engine will be paired with a 48-volt belt starter generator and an additional electric supercharger (e-Booster), supported by a battery, similar to the eTorque system found on the Ram 1500.

The 2022 Maserati Grecale will be built at the Cassino, Italy assembly plant which recently had an investment of €800 million in preparation for the new SUV. The Grecale should make its official debut by the end of this year. The license plate on the Grecale has “MMXXI” written on it, symbolizing we might see another unveiling event similar to the MMXX event last year.
