On Friday, we told you that Dodge will be kicking off the 50th Anniversary celebration of its beloved Challenger nameplate later this month at the L.A. Auto Show, we have still been getting a lot of e-mail regarding an arrival date of the high-anticipated Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. It seems there is a lot of eager Charger fans out there, ready to order a 797 horsepower four-door muscle car.
While Dodge//SRT has yet to confirm that a 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody is in the works. Sources close to MoparInsiders.com have been telling us that the car is alive and well, with several prototypes running around the streets of Metro Detroit. One of our spy photographers happened to catch a de-badged Charger Widebody doing some testing near the Auburn Hills Headquarters, recently.
In late June, at the unveiling of the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody at the FCA What’s New event at the Chelsea Proving Grounds, Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America stated, “(Dodge fans) quickly noticed that the scales were tipped in the favor of the Challenger and not as much in favor of the Charger. So today is step one in rectifying that”.
Our sources are telling us to expect the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody, to be very similar in looks to its Hellcat Widebody sibling. The biggest difference between the two cars will be the Redeye’s hood design. The Redeye will get a hood that features a bigger intake that will feed directly into the Demon-styled cold air intake, as well as newly designed heat extractors that run up the hood and closer to the windshield (as pictured in the rendering below).
Dodge//SRT did introduce the Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition off at the Woodward Dream Cruise, and we believe that the performance brand is holding on to its Redeye version till the spring, trying not to take away the attention from the Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition.
While our sources haven’t said anything about where the car would be unveiled, the most logical guess would be at the LX Spring Fest 15. Last year, Dodge//SRT showed off their “concept” version of the Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody there and the brand has been known to show off several new concepts as well as other future ideas there in the past. So until then, we are keeping our fingers crossed for a springtime debut.
