Second-Generation EcoDiesel Returns, Offering Most Affordable Way To Get Into A Half-Ton Diesel Pickup...

About a month ago, we broke the news that the Ram Truck brand was bringing back the controversial second-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that was recently recertified to meet U.S. emissions standards in its 2019 Ram 1500 Classic pickups. But that wasn’t the only thing Ram Trucks was bringing back to the market, instead, the engine would be debut in the return of the Laramie trim on the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic.

While Ram Trucks has continued to sell its 2019 Ram 1500 Classic pickups outside the North American market with the Laramie trim, the trim was discontinued and the Big Horn became the highest trim level one could purchase on the U.S. market. But instead of just reintroducing the 2018 Ram 1500 (DS) Laramie, the truck has been updated with some interesting touches for the 2019 model year.

When it comes to the second-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, it still retains its 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft of torque from the 2018 model year. The only transmission choice is the ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission which gives the truck a 27 mpg rating on the highway.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic EcoDiesel arrives just before the all-new third-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that offers more horsepower and torque with better fuel economy under the hood the 2020 Ram 1500.
