Jeep® Should Unveil Its Wagoneer & Grand Wagoneer LWB Models In New York!

Time To Super Size Your Wagoneer...

As the premium extension of the Jeep® brand, the 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer (WS) entered the full-size SUV segment with standard three-row seating and best-in-class overall passenger volume, total volume, third-row headroom, and second- and third-row legroom. But what happens when it isn’t enough? Both Ford Motor Company and General Motors (GM) offer long-wheelbase (LWB) versions of their mainstream and luxury full-size SUV offerings, and now its Jeep’s turn.

We have seen several spy photos (including these latest ones) of both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in their LWB forms. The newer LWB versions look to be quite longer than their SWB counterparts.

It is easy to spot the difference between the two variants. All you need to do is look no further than the rear doors. On the new LWB models, you will notice that the cutline for the doors doesn’t cut into the rear wheel’s arch like the SWB models. Instead, there is a massive space between the rear-wheel arch and the cutline which runs down to the bottom of the body. We can also see that the rear D-pillar and the rear side glass are also longer.

It appears that the new 2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer LWB models, will make their debut at the 2022 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) this next month. Our sources have indicated that the LWB models will also join the introduction of the all-new 3.0-liter GME-T6 High-Output (H.O.) inline-six-cylinder engine under the hood of the WS twins.

The GME-T6 H.O. should also be available as an option for the LWB models, once they launch. The GME-T6 H.O. will be the first of three variants of the new powertrain, with the others being a Standard-Output (S.O.) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant. Expect the PHEV powertrain to show up during the 2023 model year and be available on both wheelbases. We still aren’t sure if the PHEV will be labeled as a 4xe model, considering Jeep is trying to distance the Wagoneer models as their own premium sub-brand.

For those who don’t want to opt for the new GME-T6, the Wagoneer will still offer the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with a next-generation eTorque mild-hybrid (mHEV) system as standard equipment on both SWB and LWB models in the U.S. and Canada. Grand Wagoneer models will also continue to have their 6.4-liter HEMI V8 as standard equipment as well.

The NYIAS will hold its press days on Wednesday, April 13th, and Thursday, April 14th. So stay tuned, as we will continue to cover all of the news from the NYIAS show.

I didn't notice this before, but I had just assumed that it was going to a longer area behind the rear doors. But it looks like the rear doors are changing too.

Yup, they are... rear windows and D-pillar too.
