Stellantis Recalls 24,111 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids for Fire Risk

Potential Fire Risk Linked to Battery Abnormality Prompts Recall...

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) has announced a recall affecting approximately 24,111 units of its 2017 to 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid plug-in hybrid (PHEV) minivans. This decision comes after a review of warranty data revealed a potential fire risk associated with these vehicles.

The recall impacts an estimated 19,516 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans in the U.S. market. Stellantis’ investigation uncovered seven instances of fires within this vehicle group, all of which occurred while the vehicles were turned off and some while recharging. Notably, four customers reported symptoms consistent with smoke inhalation, though there have been no related accidents reported.

The company identified a rare abnormality in individual cells of the high-voltage battery pack as the root cause of these fires. While the investigation continues, Stellantis has determined that the risk is reduced when the battery charge level is depleted. Therefore, owners are advised to refrain from recharging their vehicles and to park away from structures or other vehicles until a remedy is available.

Stellantis engineers are currently validating a solution that involves a software update designed to detect the battery abnormality. If detected, dealers will replace the vehicle’s high-voltage battery at no cost to the owner.

The recall applies specifically to certain model-year 2017-2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids. This includes vehicles that may have already received a similar software update. Later models, which benefit from an improved manufacturing process, are not affected.

Affected customers will be notified about service availability by first-class mail. Starting July 24, owners can also verify if their vehicles are subject to the recall by checking with dealers or using online VIN search engines, such as recalls.mopar.com or checktoprotect.org.

The recalled vehicles can still be driven. Customers with any additional concerns are encouraged to contact Stellantis’ customer care line at 1-800-853-1403.

The recall also affects approximately 2,912 vehicles in Canada and 1,683 vehicles in markets outside North America.
