Stellantis Launches Production of Jeep® Grand Cherokee L in Egypt
Egyptian Assembly Begins as Stellantis Scales Back U.S. Production...
Stellantis has strategically expanded its Middle East and Africa (MEA) operations by launching the 2025 Jeep® Grand Cherokee L (WL) in the Egyptian market. This model, which has been exclusively produced at the Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack (DACM) facility in Detroit, Michigan, will now also be assembled locally at the Arab American Vehicles (AAV) plant in Cairo. This production shift underscores Stellantis’ commitment to Egypt and aligns with its “Dare Forward 2030” strategy to strengthen regional production and market leadership.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L, a three-row SUV renowned for its spacious seating, advanced technology, and legendary Jeep capability, will debut in Egypt as a 2025 model year vehicle, available exclusively in the Limited trim. This launch marks a significant milestone for Stellantis, as it leverages Egypt’s strategic location and skilled workforce to serve the Middle East and Africa with high-quality, locally-produced vehicles.
By starting local production in Egypt, Stellantis enhances its ability to meet regional demand and contributes to the country’s economic growth through job creation, skill development, and technology transfer. This initiative is part of Stellantis’ broader goal of achieving over 90% regional production autonomy by 2030, positioning the company as the most localized automotive player in the MEA region.
The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited, now assembled in Egypt, is powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that delivers 290 horsepower, paired with a ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain combination offers a smooth and efficient driving experience, making it well-suited for both urban and off-road environments.
Design-wise, the Grand Cherokee L retains its bold and distinctive Jeep heritage. The Limited trim features a slanted front grille, slim LED headlights, and the iconic seven-slot grille that adds a touch of elegance. The SUV’s roofline conveys a sense of lightness and harmony, complemented by LED taillights that enhance its overall character.
Inside, the Grand Cherokee L Limited provides a premium experience focused on modern technology and comfort. The interior includes a 10.1-inch Uconnect™ 5 system display, a premium Alpine® sound system, and a rear-seat camera system that offers a high-definition (HD) view of the second and third-row passengers. The vehicle also boasts over 110 safety and security features, including adaptive cruise control (ACC) and highway assist, making it one of the most advanced SUVs in its class.
The relaunch of local production at the AAV plant, in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Industrialization, not only reinforces Stellantis’ commitment to the Egyptian market but also aligns with the Egyptian government’s broader strategy to enhance local manufacturing. However, this decision might raise concerns with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, especially given that Stellantis recently “temporarily” cut one of the three shifts at the DACM facility due to slow sales of the Grand Cherokee. By shifting production to Egypt, Stellantis aims to reaffirm its vision for the future of mobility in the Middle East and Africa while continuing to introduce high-quality, locally tailored vehicles to the region, even as it navigates the challenges in its U.S. operations.
