RECALL: Maserati North America Recalls 409 Vehicles For Potential Fuel Leak!

Recall Affects Levante, Ghibli, Quattroporte, & MC20 Models...

Maserati North America, Inc. has issued a voluntary safety recall for about 409 vehicles sold in the United States according to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall involves four different models in the brand’s lineup to replace a fuel line sensor housing.

According to the recall, a fuel line sensor fuel leak may cause fuel starvation of the engine. In rare circumstances, if the leaked fuel comes in contact with an ignition source, a fire could occur.

Fuel starvation may also result in an unexpected loss of motive power, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A vehicle fire can result in an increased risk of occupant injury and/or injury to persons outside the vehicle, as well as property damage.

The recall states the affected units include the following vehicles…

  • 274 units of 2021 and 2022 Levante built between September 18th, 2020 and October 4th, 2021
  • 88 units of 2021 Ghibli built between November 3rd, 2020 to June 7th, 2021
  • 43 units of 2021 Quattroporte built between October 28th, 2020 to June 7th, 2021
  • 4 units of the 2022 MC20 built between July 12th, 2021 to September 29th, 2021

Recall Chronology – 

  • On October 8th, 2021, Maserati SpA received information from the Alfa Romeo Cassino Plant in Italy, that there were was a potential issue on an engine bay fuel bundle.
  • On October 9th, 2021, Maserati SpA opened an internal investigation with the supplier (Hutchinson Poland) to understand and conduct testing to identify the scope of suspect components.
  • Between October 9th, 2021, and November 4th, 2021, the supplier reviewed its production records and conducted testing to identify the scope of suspect components.
  • As of October 8th, 2021, Maserati North America, Inc. (MNA) identified no customer assistance records, warranty claims, or field reports potentially related to the issue for all markets.
  • As of October 8th, 2021, MNA is aware of zero accidents and zero injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
  • On November 4th, 2021, Maserati S.p.A. decided, through its Vehicle Regulations Committee, to issue a Voluntary Safety Recall on all affected vehicles.

Dealers will replace the fuel line sensor housing, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on December 27th, 2021. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati’s number for this recall is 442.
