Stellantis’ $100 Million Warren Truck Investment Confirms All-New SUV

CEO Antonio Filosa Reportedly Showed Internal Material Hinting At A Ram SUV

Just one day after Stellantis announced its record-breaking $13 billion U.S. investment plan, more details are emerging about what’s coming to Michigan’s Warren Truck Assembly Plant—and it’s big news for Ram fans.

According to sources close to MoparInsiders, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa showed internal presentation material during a Town Hall meeting earlier today that included what appeared to be a Ram-branded full-size SUV. This revelation follows Stellantis’ confirmation that Warren Truck will receive a $100 million investment to produce an all-new range-extended EV (REEV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) large SUV starting in 2028.

The new program is expected to add more than 900 new jobs at the historic Warren Truck facility—affectionately known as “Dodge City”—and marks a significant expansion of the Ram brand’s future product portfolio.

A Major Boost for Warren Truck –

The Warren Truck Assembly Plant, currently producing the Jeep® Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, has been a cornerstone of Stellantis’ U.S. manufacturing network for decades. With this latest investment, the plant will be retooled to build a new generation of body-on-frame (BoF) vehicles featuring both electrified and traditional powertrains.

The addition of 900 new positions could restore a second shift, ensuring the plant’s long-term stability and solidifying Stellantis’ commitment to keeping large-vehicle production in Metro Detroit.

Ram’s Return to the SUV Market –

While speculation initially centered around Dodge or Chrysler, the internal material reportedly shown by CEO Filosa clearly featured a SUV under the Ram banner, making it increasingly likely that the next big product from Warren Truck will be a Ram full-size SUV.

This would mark Ram’s first SUV since the Mexican-market Ramcharger in 2001, a model that was beloved for its rugged capability and muscular styling. The decision to bring Ram back into the full-size SUV segment aligns with Stellantis’ broader strategy to expand Ram’s appeal beyond pickups and commercial vans—without losing the brand’s signature toughness and capability.

A full-size SUV fits naturally within Ram’s DNA. It could serve as a truck-based family hauler capable of serious towing and off-road performance, giving customers an alternative to luxury-oriented models like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer while still competing directly with the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Ford Expedition.

Built on Proven Strength –

Given Warren Truck’s BoF expertise, the new SUV will almost certainly share its architecture with the Wagoneer platform, ensuring a strong foundation for both ICE and REEV variants.

Expect gas power to come from Stellantis’ twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter HURRICANE I6, as well as one of the HEMI® V8 engines. The REEV setup will likely mirror the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer REEV, which uses electric motors for propulsion and a gas-powered generator to extend range.

This combination would deliver instant torque, long-distance range, and class-leading towing capability—potentially exceeding 10,000 pounds—while offering the refinement and technology expected from a modern full-size SUV.

The Ramcharger Name Could Make a Comeback –

One of the most exciting possibilities is that this new SUV could revive the “Ramcharger” nameplate, which holds deep roots in Ram’s history.

Recently, Ram confirmed that after canceling the all-electric Ram 1500 REV, the REV nameplate would move to the brand’s range-extended Ram 1500 pickup, which was officially called the Ram 1500 Ramcharger. That shift leaves the Ramcharger name itself available for future use—making it a perfect fit for a rugged, electrified full-size SUV.

The name carries heritage and recognition. From the 1970s through the early 2000s, the Ramcharger embodied raw strength and capability, serving as a direct rival to the Ford Bronco and Chevrolet Blazer. Reviving it for the modern era—complete with hybrid and range-extended technology—would blend nostalgia with innovation in a way few brands can replicate.

Expanding Ram’s Reach –

The introduction of a full-size SUV would strategically broaden Ram’s showroom lineup, giving dealers a fresh product to sell alongside the Ram 1500, Ram Heavy Duty, and ProMaster vans.

While Ram’s core business remains pickup trucks and commercial vehicles, this new SUV would attract lifestyle and family-oriented buyers who still want truck-based toughness and high towing capacity—but with enclosed cargo space and additional seating.

It’s a smart move for Stellantis, positioning Ram to tap into one of America’s most profitable vehicle segments without diluting its brand identity.

A Win for Detroit and American Manufacturing –

Beyond product speculation, Stellantis’ investment at Warren Truck represents a major win for American manufacturing. The $100 million infusion will update tooling, increase flexibility, and secure long-term jobs for Michigan workers.

As Stellantis continues to roll out its electrification strategy, Warren Truck’s new role in building the next generation of large SUVs ensures that American-made, body-on-frame vehicles remain a core part of its future.

With Antonio Filosa’s Town Hall presentation now hinting at a Ram SUV, it’s safe to say something big is coming—and it’s more than likely carrying the Ram badge proudly.

If the rumors are right, the Ramcharger name could soon make a roaring comeback, symbolizing Ram’s next bold step into the electrified SUV era.
