SHAP Produces Its 2,000,000th Ram 1500 (DT) Pickup

The 2,000,000th Units Was a Flame Red-Colored Ram 1500 RHO

The Stellanits Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) hit a major milestone on Wednesday, April 16th, rolling out its 2,000,000th fifth-generation Ram 1500 (DT) pickup truck. The vehicle — a Flame Red-painted 2025 Ram 1500 RHO — symbolizes how far the facility has come since it began building the current-gen Ram 1500 back in 2018.

The suburban Detroit facility, owned by Stellantis, was once a car plant. It was retooled in 2016 after the discontinuation of the Chrysler 200 and began truck production in March 2018. Since then, SHAP has become the heart of Ram 1500 production, handling a wide range of trims, including Rebel, Warlock, and now the RHO.

“The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant is a core facility in our manufacturing footprint, tasked with the difficult responsibility of assembling the Ram 1500, a nameplate with 10 trim levels and thousands of configurations,” said Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis. “Handing keys to nearly 2 million Ram 1500 customers takes a strong team as we start an aggressive product cadence for Ram brand.”

The milestone comes just six months after the plant celebrated its 40th anniversary under Chrysler ownership.

“Not that long ago, SHAP’s future was in doubt so this is a remarkable accomplishment, and I am so proud of this workforce for their resilience and dedication,” said SHAP Plant Manager Chuck Padden. “We have a lot to look forward to as we start building the Ram 1500 with a range of powertrain options, providing freedom of choice for our customers.”

In 2024, Stellantis invested $235.5 million into SHAP to support production of new Ram 1500 models built on flexible STLA Frame architecture (derived from the DT architecture that the standard Ram 1500 rides on now). These new models, both electric vehicles (EVs) include the range-extending electric vehicle (REEV) 2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger and all-electric 2026 Ram 1500 REV.

Congratulations to the dedicated members of UAW Local 1700, who represent the hardworking team at SHAP, along with everyone else who helps keep the plant running strong.

I’ve worked in this plant quite a few times as an outside Electrician. Basically doing new construction and retooling. I’m a member of IBEW local 58 Detroit. I take pride in seeing what the people of Detroit build. Then all the Union members in the U.S. and Canada. If you want the job done right use Union skilled labor! Congrats to the workers of SHAP.
