Salvage Snake: Rare Flood-Damaged Viper ACR-Extreme Crosses the Auction Block Sept. 7

A rare 2017 Dodge Viper ACR-Extreme with flood damage goes under the hammer via IAA Dream Rides: could this inoperable salvage still bring the bite back?

A Waterlogged Monster: 2017 Viper ACR Heading to Auction

Vehicle restoration gurus, check your calendars! A flood-damaged 2017 Dodge Viper ACR is scheduled to go up for auction via IAA Dream Rides on Tuesday, September 2, at 12 p.m. CDT.

This isn’t just any Viper. It’s an ACR-Extreme (American Club Racer), the most hardcore track-focused variant of Dodge’s final-gen snake, built to dominate laps with adjustable aero and premium components.

According to the IAA listing, the car is listed with a North Carolina Salvage title, having suffered flood-induced damage, and is labeled as “won’t start.” It’s located in Greensboro, North Carolina, with actual mileage unknown.

A Rare Beast with Rough Problems, but Massive Potential

The ACR is legendary among enthusiasts for its Nürburgring runs, aggressive downforce, and serious curb appeal. However, water damage can strike deep, affecting the engine, electronics, interior, and beyond.

The IAA listing shows photos before and after the car was cleaned. While it appears to have cleaned up well, the above image reveals that the water line extended all the way up to the window sill, meaning almost every module and bit of wiring in the car was underwater for an undetermined period of time.

Still, this type of salvage sale is more than just a gamble: it’s a chance to salvage a high-performance legend. If there were a list of cars worth saving, a last year Viper ACR-Extreme would definitely be on that list.
