During the Capital Markets Day presentation last Friday, FCA released what it has planned for the Alfa Romeo brand globally. That plan calls for two new specialty cars, a pair of utility vehicles and news about long wheelbase offerings of its current vehicles.
The most exciting news from the Alfa Romeo brand is the addition to two new specialty cars over the next few years, taking names from Alfa’s past. The first offering is the mid-engine Alfa Romeo 8C. The 8C will have a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and be powered by a twin turbo engine. An electric assisted front axle combined with the engine will make over 700-horsepower. The car will have an estimated 0-100 kph time under 3-seconds.
The second specialty car will the GTV. The GTV will be a four-seater coupe with perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The car will have all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. It will be powered by a 600-horsepower turbocharged engine with the latest in technology.
It does not look good for the Alfa Romeo B-Segment MiTo. There is no known replacement for the B-Segment in Alfa Romeo’s future lineup. However, the Giulietta will continue on compared to what most sources were saying about that vehicle being killed off. Looks an all-new Giulietta will debut sometime in the next couple of years and will also be sharing a platform with a C-Segment utility vehicle.
Alfa Romeo also announced that their lineup will be joined by an E-Segment utility vehicle. This vehicle is likely to be on a stretched version of the Georgio platform that currently underpins the Stelvio and Giulia. A long-wheelbase version of the Giuila is also planned for the Chinese market. This might be the same wheelbase as the upcoming Dodge Charger sedan.
FCA released some details on some new powertrain technology, that should make it into some future Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Chrysler vehicles. One technology in particular is the new E-Booster system. E-Booster is for turbocharged engines that uses electronics to assist in building up boost pressure so there is zero turbo lag.
Like the rest of the FCA brands, the Alfa Romeo lineup with feature some form of Level 2 or Level 3 autonomy driving settings.
FCA is forecasting that Alfa Romeo should be able to achieve 400,000 vehicles globally by 2022.
