Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 163,804 units of its 2023 to 2024 Ram 1500 (DT) pickup trucks due to a potential malfunction in the turn signal self-canceling feature. This issue leads to non-compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, which regulates “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Breakdown of Affected Vehicles –
- United States: 129,313 units
- Canada: 22,005 units
- Mexico: 1,914 units
- Outside North America: 10,572 units
Problem Description –
The recall affects 2023 and 2024 model-year Ram 1500 trucks built with a steering column control module (SCCM) that may have an interference condition in the turn signal lever mechanism. This malfunction may prevent the turn signal from canceling automatically after a turn.
Production Timeline –
The vehicles in question were produced between March 24, 2023, and December 27, 2023. Stellantis identified this suspect population through vehicle production and supplier manufacturing records. Trucks built outside this timeline or with SCCMs that do not exhibit the interference condition are not included in the recall.
Recall Chronology –
- February 22, 2024: The FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to malfunctioning SCCMs on some 2023 and 2024 MY Ram 1500 trucks.
- February 2024 – August 2024: FCA US TSRC met with FCA US engineering and manufacturing to review the issue, understand the failure mode, review customer records, and determine the suspect population.
- September 4, 2024: The FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue on certain vehicles that could lead to a turn signal or lane change indicator that does not self-cancel and may result in noncompliance with FMVSS No. 108.
- September 25, 2024: FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
