A rare, pre-production “Pilot Line” 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be auctioned at the Mecum Indy Fall Special 2024 auction on Saturday, October 5th. With an odometer reading just 9,374 miles, this one-owner vehicle holds unique significance in Challenger history.
This particular car was part of Chrysler Corporation’s Fast Feedback S2 Pilot program, an initiative designed to identify and resolve production issues before the vehicle’s public release. Originally assigned to a Chrysler executive, the Engineering VP responsible for the 2008 Challenger program, this Challenger was used for validation and certification before being updated for sale. The executive later purchased it after the testing process was complete.
Production-built vehicles feature a serialized First Edition dash plaque, with build numbers ranging from 0001 to 6324. However, this pre-production vehicle was numbered 0000 of 6440, signifying that it was built prior to the official production run. This rare distinction makes it a true collector’s item.
The car is powered by a 6.1-liter (370 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 engine, delivering 425 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. Paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission featuring Autostick, the Challenger can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds. The HEMI Orange Pearl Coat exterior and a carbon fiber-look hood stripe give it an aggressive yet classic muscle car presence. The Dark Slate Gray bucket seats and a 13-speaker Kicker SRT audio system round out the premium features.
A wealth of documentation and memorabilia is included with the car. A 60-page hardcover book detailing the Challenger’s development from concept to production, autographed by lead designer Jeff Gale and the Engineering VP, will be passed to the new owner. The package includes a 3-ring binder with original service records, press kit materials from the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, a custom MOPAR Challenger car cover, and the original window sticker.
The vehicle rides on 20-inch x 9-inch SRT aluminum wheels and features a 3.06 geared limited-slip rear axle, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, and a 6-way power driver’s seat for added comfort. This is a rare opportunity for collectors to own a piece of Dodge’s modern muscle car history.
This 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, with its unique Pilot Line status and low mileage, is expected to draw significant attention at Mecum Indy Fall Special 2024. For more information, check out the car’s dedicated auction page on Mecum.com.
