The Jeep® brand has finally pulled the covers off their latest concept that they plan on bringing to the 53rd Annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari in a couple of weeks. Six new concepts centered around the all-new 2020 Jeep® Gladiator pickup will be making their debut. So let’s take a quick look at what the FCA US Product Design Office has been working on…
Jeep® J6 Concept:
First off, while this Jeep J6 Concept looks like its a two-door version of the Gladiator, it’s not. It is actually based off of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Featuring a two-door cab and a six-foot bed, this is the truck configuration that most Jeep diehards were originally hoping for.
Featuring a removable hardtop, and a 12-inch longer bed the J6 Concept showcases its ability to be a true lifestyle vehicle. While it shares the same dimensions in the wheelbase as the Wrangler Unlimited, the J6 is more like a take on the JK-8 export Jeep truck based on the last generation Jeep Wrangler (JK).
The J6 Concept reminds us a lot of the 2012 Jeep J-12 Concept that the Jeep team brought to Moab while retaining the modern Jeep front end. Graphics on the tailgate mimick the Jeep text of 1963 Jeep Gladiator. The truck is painted in a Metallic Brillant Blue paint, that pays homage to the full-size 1978 Jeep Honcho pickup.
Just like the modern Gladiator, it is powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 8-speed automatic, except this one has some minor enhancements from the Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) bin. Several JPP products are featured on the J6 Concept like a two-inch kit, a prototype tire-carrier mounted to the bed floor, 37-inch tires are fitted to a set of bead-lock brass monkey painted wheels, a prototype two-inch steel stinger bar that bolts to the Rubicon front bumper, customized rock rails with two-inch steel tubes welded to the standard rails.
M-715 Five-Quarter Concept:
The Jeep design team started this concept’s design with a 1968 Jeep M-715 truck. While it based on the M-715 truck, almost everything is completely new from the ground up.
The Five-Quarter Concept gets heavy reinforcements to its original frame. The Jeep design team replaced the original leaf springs with a modern heavy-duty link-coil suspension. Body panels are completely made of carbon-fiber. The custom designed box is based on a six-foot configuration but features perforated body panels. This isn’t the first time the Jeep team has tried to build a lightweight Jeep (Jeep Stitch, Jeep 4-Speed and M-715 Crew Chief).
Jeep pulled the new Dynatrac Pro-Rock 60 axle two-inches forward in the front, to make way for the 6.2-liter Supercharged HEMI “HELLCrate” V8, which produces 707 horsepower. The team added a Dynatac Pro-Rock 80 axle in the rear. Helping to put all that power to the ground is a set of 20-inch bead-lock wheels featuring 40-inch tires.
Inside, the Five-Quarter gets a huge update over the original. Starting with the console cover, which is the body of an old 8-71 supercharger. It showcases the gear and transfer case levers. Seats are much improved over the original vehicle too, as they come straight out of the Jeep Wrangler.
Jeep® JT Scrambler Concept:
While many people thought that the all-new Gladiator would originally be called the “Scrambler”, a nameplate used on the Jeep CJ-8, the Jeep team decided to pay homage to the CJ-8 with the JT Scrambler Concept.
The JT Scrambler Concept features several parts from the JPP portfolio. Powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 8-speed automatic, the Scrambler adds a Mopar cat-back exhaust and cold-air intake system.
While the JT Scrambler wears the familiar colors of the original CJ-8 Scrambler, it also features a unique sports bar in the bed, that pays homage to the original. Modern LED lighting is mounted a top and in a reverse position from the sports bar behind the cab. Bronze-colored 17-inch wheels paired with a set of beefy aggressive 37-inches, along with the brown-painted hard top, give the exterior a look that pops.
Inside, the JT Scrambler Concept features Katzkin Amaretto Brown leather seats with orange stitching. The cabin features orange accents, which tie in with the exterior paint scheme but manage to give the truck an upscale look.
Jeep® Gladiator Gravity Concept:
The Jeep Gladiator Gravity, even though being called a concept, is basically a vehicle that a Gladiator owner can build themselves using the JPP catalog. Some of the parts showcased on the Gravity are heavy-duty rock rails that are coated in a bed liner material, two-inch round steel tube doors that were featured on the Moparized Jeep Gladiator, tie down straps that help secure the windshield and a new mesh sunbonnet that provides cover while off-roading in the Moab sun.
The Punk’N colored Gladiator Gravity features a 3.6-liter Pentastar under the hood featuring a JPP cold-air intake system. With a two-inch lift kit, the Gravity has an aggressive stance. The concept features a set of JPP wheels and 35-inch off-road tires.
In the rear, Mopar bed-mounted cross rails work with a Mopar bike carrier to support active lifestyles. A truck bed storage system enhances utility with lockable, dual sliding drawers.
Jeep® Flatbill Concept:
The Flatbill Concept is a motocrossers dream rig. Featuring a large number of off-road goodies, the Flatbill looks the part of not just an off-road rig, but one that would look good both off and on road. Gone is the tailgate which is replaced with a new extendable built-in ramp system to fit in the box. Perfect for the pair of motocross bikes in the box.
Powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 8-speed automatic, this Gladiator-based concept also gets a JPP cold-air intake system. A set of Dynatrac Pro-Rock 60 are equipped with an Off-Road Evolution 4-inch lift kit and pair of larger rear bypass shocks are fitted underneath. A set of 20-inch bronze 6-spoke bead-lock wheels wearing a set of 40-inch tires give the Flatbill an aggressive stance. A custom sports bar, custom front fenders, shortened front bumpers, rock rails, and carbon fiber hood vents along with the bright yellow graphics carrying the “41” paying homage to the originally Willy MB Jeep’s birth date.
Jeep® Wayout Concept:
The Wayout is the Jeep team’s idea of building the ultimate overland vehicle. Just like the rest of the Gladiator-based concepts, the Gator-colored Wayout Concept is powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 8-speed automatic.
The Jeep team dug into the JPP portfolio to create this amazing off-roader. Starting with a JPP two-inch lift kit, the team was able to mount 37-inch mud-terrain tires to a set of 17-inch steel wheels that are painted to match the Gator-colored exterior. Mounted to the hood is a JPP snorkel kit, while a 12,000 lb. Warn winch is fitted to the front of the truck, for getting you through that near-impossible terrain.
A JPP lockable bed-drawer system that we saw on the Moparized Jeep Gladiator is featured in the box of the Wayout. A bed-mounted platform to house a Mopar two-person collapsable tent also features a built-in ladder system for easy access to the roof-mounted tent. The bed also features two custom auxiliary fuel tanks that are integrated into the side of the box. The Wayout also features an onboard ARB air compressor that is body-mounted with a quick disconnect for airing and deflating your Jeep through the different terrain.
These trucks will be shown to the public the week of Easter on the trails of Moab.
