Production Of The Peugeot 3008 Has Begun In West Africa!
Will Be Joined By The Production Of The Landtrek Pickup...
Peugeot has announced that the production of its globally acclaimed SUV, the Peugeot 3008 has begun at the Silver Star Auto-owned Tema Assembly Plant in Ghana. The announcement marks another milestone between the Citroën and Peugeot brands with Silver Star Auto, a partnership that began in 2019. Silver Star Auto imports and distributes a diverse range of Citroën and Peugeot models to the Ghana market.
“We are delighted to announce a new milestone with Silver Star Auto as we enter a new phase in our partnership that will contribute to the growth of the automotive industry in Ghana. We see tremendous potential and opportunity for our brands in the country and are looking forward to serving customers with the most suitable mobility solutions”, said Badreiddine Mansouri, Managing Director Sub-Saharan Africa, Stellantis NV (Peugeot).
At the inspection tour of the assembly plant in Tema, Anne-Sophie Avé, the Ambassador of France to Ghana commended Silver Star Auto and Peugeot for their commitment to the industrialization of Ghana. Avé said, “the assembly in Ghana of Peugeot cars by Silver Star Auto will lead to job creation as well as increase the technical knowledge and expertise base.”
The facility will also manufacture the Peugeot-midsized Landtrek pickup, as well. Ghana-built Landtrek pickups will be arriving in dealers sometime next month.
The plant has an initial capacity to produce 4,500 units annually from a Semi Knock Down (SKD) plan. An SKD is a process where a manufacturer partially strips down a vehicle at the origin and reassembles it in another country. However, the manufacturer cannot sell them immediately as an SKD unit. So, it needs some more manufacturing or assembly once the vehicle reaches its destination country as an SKD unit.
However, such vehicles may also need to undergo assembly, inspection, quality control, and testing before they leave the manufacturing plant. They also need to undergo the “Pre-Delivery Inspection” or the PDI at the dealerships/distributors before handing it over to the end customers.
Currently, Peugeot brand vehicles are sold in 130 countries around the globe.
