Meet The 2024 Ram Rampage Compact Pickup

Ram Shows Us Its All-New Compact Unibody Pickup...

One of the most highly anticipated launches in recent years, the Ram Rampage, has finally arrived to offer a perfect combination of strength, capacity, luxury, and technology in a pickup truck designed specifically for the Brazilian and South American markets.

Designed by the Stellantis Design Center of South America, the Rampage boasts imposing and impactful lines crafted with particular attention to proportion and muscularity from every angle. Collaborating with North American designers, Stellantis ensured that each version of the Rampage would have its own distinct identity.

Exterior Design –

The Rebel version of the Rampage showcases an off-road look, featuring extensive use of black and graphite finishes on external parts. Inspired by its “big brother,” the Ram 1500 Rebel, the Rebel version stands out with exclusive design elements such as a trapezoidal-shaped grille.

On the other hand, the Laramie version exudes a more traditional style, with chrome and silver finishes accentuating the front grille, glass frames, rearview mirror covers, door handles, logos, wheels, and rear bumper, reminiscent of the Ram 2500 and 3500 models.

For those seeking a sportier driving experience, the R/T version proudly displays the iconic acronym (Road/Track) with a combination of body-colored components and glossy black accents. Noteworthy features include large bands on the hood, exclusive emblems on the rear fenders and wheel faces, and a black printed ceiling to complete the sporty package.

Rampage pays meticulous attention to details, including using all-LED optical assemblies. The front headlights leave a striking signature with dynamic turn signals that create a mesmerizing “moving” light effect from the inside out—a groundbreaking feature in the segment. The headlights also incorporate dual-function projectors for low and high beams, while the LED fog lights come with a cornering function to illuminate curves.

At the rear, the taillights feature illuminated graphics that resemble the flag of the United States, with red stripes and a rectangle of stars forming the backlight. Both sets of lights perform a welcome movement when the pickup is activated.

Size –

The Rampage measures approximately 16 feet and 5.95 inches in length, 74.3 inches in width, and 70 inches in height. It has a wheelbase of about 117-inches and provides 10.39 inches of ground clearance.

That is close to the dimensions of the compact Ford Maverick pickup.

Power –

Being the most powerful pickup truck manufactured in South America, the Rampage owes its performance to the modern Hurricane4 engine, which is used for the first time in a vehicle produced in the region.

The engine is available across all versions, while the R/T exclusively features this powertrain. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine generates an impressive 272 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft .of torque. Constructed entirely of aluminum and equipped with direct injection and double variable valve control, this state-of-the-art engine ensures top-tier performance for a pickup truck.

Part of the Stellantis Global Medium Engine (GME) family, the Hurricane4 engine incorporates a low inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, an electronic relief valve, and a refrigerated exhaust gas recirculation system. These features enable the Rampage to deliver outstanding performance among pickup trucks produced in the region.

In the R/T version, the sportiest of all, the Rampage accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds and has a maximum (limited) speed of 137 mph. The performance remains equally impressive in the other versions, with a 0-60 mph acceleration in 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.

It’s worth noting that the Rampage equipped with the Hurricane4 engine features a dual exhaust system, which enhances the captivating sound, particularly in the R/T version. The Rebel and Laramie versions include a Sport button on the steering wheel, which modifies the appearance of the digital instrument panel, enhances accelerator and steering responses and adjusts gear changes at higher RPMs. In the R/T version, this button is renamed after the variant and further customizes these parameters.

The Rampage is also available with the renowned 2.0-liter Multijet Turbo Diesel engine, delivering 170 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft .of torque. This engine provides an unbeatable combination of efficiency and performance, achieving a 0-60 mph acceleration in 10.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 115 mph. The Multijet engine is available in the Rebel and Laramie configurations.

To harness the power of these engines, the Rampage is equipped with a top-of-the-line 9-speed automatic transmission featuring a rotary selector similar to the Ram 1500. Manual gear changes can also be made using the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The Rampage comes standard with automatic 4×4 traction, which distributes power between the two axles and includes a low-range mode accessible via a button on the center console.

Capability –

Capability is an essential pillar for Ram, and the Rampage excels in this aspect. The pickup’s robust structure comprises 86% high and ultra-high-strength steel. Featuring independent suspension on all four wheels, with McPherson architecture at the front and multilink at the rear, the Rampage offers specific geometry and calibration for maximum comfort, stability, and load-carrying capability in all situations, whether it’s off-road terrain or sporty driving.

The R/T version boasts firmer springs, shock absorbers, a 10mm lowered suspension, and 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/55 tires. The Rebel version enhances its off-road capabilities with All Terrain 235/65 R17 tires. The Laramie version comes with 18-inch rims and 235/60 tires.

The high performance of the Hurricane4 engine necessitated special attention to the brake system. The Rampage features ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels, with a diameter of 12.01 inches at the front and 12.6 inches at the rear. The parking brake is electronic and includes the Auto Hold feature, providing convenience in heavy traffic. Additionally, the Rampage includes Hill Start Assist for easy incline starts and Hill Descent Control (HDC) for controlled descents during off-road adventures.

With a payload capacity of 2,237 lbs in diesel configurations and 1,654 lbs with gasoline engines, the Rampage ensures effortless transportation of heavy loads in its 980-liter volumetric capacity bed. The pickup also offers ample cabin storage, boasting a class-leading 35.4 liters of storage compartments.

Interior –

The interior of the Rampage has been thoughtfully designed to deliver luxury and comfort to its occupants. The seats draw inspiration from premium furniture, providing a comfortable armchair-like experience. The interior boasts a high level of finish, with premium materials such as perforated leather and suede (exclusive to the R/T version), enhanced by red stitching to emphasize the sporty aesthetic.

All versions feature a dual-zone digital air conditioning system with rear passenger vents. The LED ambient lighting and the Harman Kardon® premium sound system further accentuate the attention to creating an exquisite atmosphere. The system comprises ten speakers strategically positioned throughout the cabin, including a 6-inch subwoofer beneath the passenger seat, capable of delivering 360 watts of power. These features are part of the optional Elite package, including a 12-way power-adjustable passenger seat (the driver’s seat is electric as standard).

Even the truck bed showcases thoughtful design elements for a pleasant user experience. It includes an electric opening feature controlled by a button on the key, a damping mechanism for smooth lowering and lifting, and internal LED lighting.

The instrument panel, door panels, center armrests, and multifunctional steering wheel, all adjustable for height and depth, are meticulously wrapped in leather. The Rebel version features black leather, the Laramie version incorporates brown leather, and the R/T version boasts suede upholstery. The front door panels and the top of the instrument panel feature soft-touch materials that contribute to reducing internal cabin noise.

The Rampage sets a new benchmark for technological content in a domestically produced pickup truck. As you step inside, you’re greeted by an impressive 22.6 inches of screen. This includes a 10.3-inch fully digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch Uconnect multimedia center display, the largest in its class. The Uconnect system stands out not only for its size and high definition but also for its intuitive interface and extensive range of features. It includes wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and the ability to pair two smartphones simultaneously.

The center console houses another standout feature, the RamCharger, an induction cell phone charger with an air outlet for cooling. Speaking of charging, the Rampage offers a remarkable six USB ports, including three Type-C ports, the most extensive array among compact and medium-sized pickup trucks on the market. Two ports are conveniently positioned within a storage compartment below the central console.

The Rampage also excels in terms of safety equipment, with an array of standard features such as seven airbags (front, front side, curtain – front and rear, and knee for the driver), stability control, body roll mitigation, automatic high-beam headlight switching, tire pressure monitoring, and various driver-assist systems. These include adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, and lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist.

Additional standard features across all versions include remote start from the key fob or the Ram Connect app, a Keyless Enter’n Go system, an electrochromic rearview mirror, twilight, and rain sensors, and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors with power folding and courtesy lights.
