Fiat 500X Will Exit In 2024, Jeep® Renegade In 2025!

New Union Updates, Say The Subcompact SUVs Will End Production At Melfi...

In a recent meeting with Italian union representatives, Stellantis provided a clear roadmap for its Melfi Assembly Plant, marking the end of an era for two beloved models – the Jeep® Renegade (BU) and Fiat 500X (FD). Both vehicles have had illustrious careers, but it’s time for them to bid adieu.

The first to take its final bow will be the Fiat 500X, expected to cease production by the close of 2024. A year later, by the end of 2025, the Jeep Renegade will follow suit. While the future of these models remains uncertain, changes are on the horizon.

The Jeep Renegade, although set to retire, is poised for a successor. This new iteration, while possibly donning a different name, will be a 100% electric vehicle in the European market (although an internal combustion-powered variant will be likely for the North American market). It’s anticipated to boast slightly larger dimensions and an intensified focus on off-road capabilities, differentiating it from its predecessor, the all-new Jeep Avenger (JJ), which is not sold in North America.

On the other hand, the Fiat 500X isn’t slated for a direct successor. Although there was once speculation about a larger version nicknamed the Fiat 500XL, the company’s plans are yet to crystallize.

In the B-segment, Fiat is gearing up to unveil two fresh crossovers. The first, the already-revealed Fiat 600, comes in both electric and hybrid versions. Its launch in July marked an exciting milestone for the brand. Following closely in its footsteps is the highly anticipated Fiat Panda, expected to debut possibly on July 11, 2024. This compact car, around four meters (157.5 inches) in length with a distinctive square-shaped design, is poised to be one of Stellantis’ initial low-cost electric offerings in Europe, with a price tag below £25,000 after incentives.

Venturing into the C-segment, Fiat has a new crossover in the pipeline, currently dubbed the “new Fiat Multipla.” Details about this intriguing addition are eagerly awaited.

Looking ahead at the Melfi plant’s prospects, five new models are on the horizon over the next few years. Two will bear the emblem of DS Automobiles, while one each will represent Jeep, Opel, and Lancia. Jeep enthusiasts can look forward to the Compass (MV) successor, which will coexist with the current generation for a transitional period before receiving its final iteration. Meanwhile, Opel and Lancia aficionados can anticipate the arrival of the new Opel Manta and Lancia Gamma, both poised to make distinctive contributions to the European automotive landscape.

We never got the better and more practical trims of the 500X here that Europe received. Why the company which owns Jeep tried to pass off this Fiat model as a mini-Jeep defies logic. I would like to see the Fiat brand give it one more try in North America, but the marketing strategy has to change radically.

The Renegade is actually a great vehicle, tons of room for its size, not bad economy. I prefer it over the Compass hands down.

I like the Renegade. I object to the 500X trying to imitate a Jeep. The Fiat should have been styled and trimmed towards sportier on road performance, like what was done for the EU market.. I waited for the hybrid Renegade and Compass models and they didn't show up.

Sure they are just trying to determine the PSA Platform mates and manufacturing locations.
