Mopars at the Donut Cutter: A Mid-Week Automotive Tradition

Celebrating Mopar Muscle and Community During Woodward Dream Cruise Week...

Every August, the Woodward Dream Cruise turns the Detroit area into a hub of automotive enthusiasm. While the official cruise takes place on Saturday, the week leading up to it is packed with various events, each celebrating a different facet of car culture. One such event is the “Mopars at the Donut Cutter,” a must-see gathering for Mopar enthusiasts. Located at the Donut Cutter, a beloved donut shop at the crossroads of Woodward Avenue and Catalpa in Berkley, Michigan, this event has become a tradition for many.

On the Wednesday before the Dream Cruise, Mopar muscle car fans flock to the Donut Cutter, joined by members of the Twisted Axle Car Club. The result is a parking lot jam-packed with Mopar vehicles spanning decades—from the classic 1950s to today’s modern muscle. With a wide array of powertrains on display, including HEMIs, SIX PACKs, Ramchargers, MAGNUMs, and even turbocharged four-cylinders, there was something to excite every car enthusiast.

The event drew such a crowd that the overflow of cars spilled onto the surrounding side streets. Among the standout vehicles was the famed “Corky’s ‘Cuda,” a George Barris-customized Plymouth Barracuda. This car, which starred in the 1972 B-movie “Corky” and appeared in a DieHard batteries commercial, was a magnet for attention.

Another eye-catching vehicle was a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in White, adorned with a rare blue longitudinal R/T stripe and featuring a striking blue interior. This stunning combination of colors made it a favorite among attendees.

Not all of the highlights were parked in the main lot, though. A 1970 Rallye Red Plymouth ‘Cuda, powered by a 440 cubic-inch V8, caught the eye of many despite being parked across the street. What made this car especially unique was the supercharged big-block V8-powered jet boat it was towing, a sight not often seen at such events.

In addition to the impressive cars, the event offered plenty of opportunities for good conversation, delicious treats, and a sense of community among Mopar fans. For anyone planning to visit Detroit during the Woodward Dream Cruise week, “Mopars at the Donut Cutter” is a must-visit event that offers a unique blend of automotive history, camaraderie, and classic car culture.
