Mopar ’17 Dodge Challenger: A Collector’s Dream

A Deep Dive into the 80th Anniversary Limited Edition...

It’s been a year since production of the modern-day Dodge Challenger ended at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, marking the close of a legendary chapter in muscle car history. This week, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to look back at some of our favorite limited edition Challengers, starting with the Mopar ’17 Dodge Challenger.

In February 2017, Mopar celebrated its 80th anniversary with the release of a bold, high-performance, limited-edition Challenger—the Mopar ’17. With only 160 units produced, this special edition was more than just a nod to Mopar’s storied past; it showcased its commitment to performance, style, and custom engineering. Based on the 2017 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 392 Shaker, the Mopar ’17 combined raw power with one-of-a-kind design elements that made it a collector’s dream.

Unmatched Performance and Engineering –

At the heart of the Mopar ’17 Challenger was the mighty 6.4-liter (392 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 engine, delivering 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine was paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, giving drivers an exhilarating connection to the road and the classic muscle car experience. The HEMI powerplant was further enhanced by the Shaker Hood package, which paid homage to vintage muscle cars and provided performance benefits by funneling cool air directly into the engine.

Additionally, Mopar added a cold air intake system that boosted horsepower while an innovative air catcher duct system routed air through the car’s headlamp. These upgrades improved throttle response and made the Mopar ’17 even more powerful. Silver powder-coated Mopar Shaker strut tower braces increased rigidity, improving handling and cornering precision. Brembo four-piston brakes ensured that stopping power matched the car’s impressive acceleration.

Custom Styling and Exclusive Design –

The Mopar ’17 wasn’t just a performance powerhouse—it was a work of art. The car was offered in two eye-catching, two-tone custom paint schemes: Pitch Black/Contusion Blue and Pitch Black/Billet Silver. Both color options were carefully designed at the Mopar Custom Shop, with the upper section of each car painted Pitch Black to seamlessly blend with the lower custom hue.

The Contusion Blue offered a tone-on-tone effect, creating a refined look that shimmered under the light, while the Billet Silver created a high-contrast, head-turning appearance. The paint jobs highlighted the aggressive lines of the Challenger, making it stand out in any crowd. A special Mopar 392 logo, hand-painted at the Mopar Custom Shop, further personalized each vehicle, making every Mopar ’17 truly unique.

The Shaker Hood package was finished in satin black, with the hood scoop surround also painted Pitch Black, complementing the overall design. The rear decklid spoiler received the same Pitch Black treatment, with the Mopar Design badge on the spoiler executed in black-on-black for a clean, understated appearance.

Interior Craftsmanship –

Inside, the Mopar ’17 was as refined as it was powerful. The performance seats were embroidered with custom Tungsten Mopar logos, while the stitching throughout the cabin was designed to match the Mopar logo. Tungsten stitching bordered the seats and continued across the door panels and center console, providing a cohesive and upscale look. The interior not only matched the car’s aggressive exterior but also added a level of sophistication that made it feel like a true collector’s piece.

Exclusive Features and Collectibility –

For enthusiasts, the Mopar ’17 Challenger was a must-have due to its exclusivity. Each car came with a serialized 80th Anniversary badge, designating it as one of only 160 units built. This badge was prominently displayed under the hood, ensuring that every owner could show off their unique piece of Mopar history.

The Mopar ‘17 also came with a special Owner’s Kit, packaged in a custom Mopar box. Inside, owners found a Mopar welcome letter, a “birth certificate” detailing the vehicle’s specifications, production date, and vehicle number, and a hand-signed rendering of the car from the FCA US LLC Product Design Office. Additionally, the kit included a special Mopar ’17 booklet, an acrylic showpiece for display, Mopar valve stem caps, and various Mopar-branded items, including a keychain and a special 80th Anniversary badge.

Wheels, Exhaust, and Final Touches –

The Mopar ’17 Challenger was finished off with custom 20-inch x 9-inch aluminum wheels that featured semi-gloss accents and center caps with the Dodge “Rhombi” logo. The standard chrome exhaust tips were replaced with black tips from the Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT, enhancing the car’s menacing appearance while complementing the dark accents throughout the vehicle.

A Collector’s Dream –

The Mopar ’17 Challenger wasn’t just another special edition; it was a perfect blend of performance, design, and exclusivity. Limited to just 160 units, each car was a unique tribute to Mopar’s 80 years of innovation. For those fortunate enough to own one, the Mopar ’17 will always be a standout, a testament to the legacy of the Challenger and the Mopar brand.
