Jeep® Recalls Its 2024 Grand Cherokee For Steering Knuckle Issue

Improperly Machined Steering Knuckle Could Cause Ball Joint To Separate...

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 250 units of its 2024 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL) due to an improperly machined steering knuckle. A steering knuckle without finished machining can cause a ball joint not to be seated correctly and the ball joint nut to not be fully torqued, which can cause the ball joint to knuckle separation. A ball joint separating from the knuckle results in the wheel falling outboard, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.

The suspect period began on December 27, 2023, when suspect steering knuckles were introduced into vehicle production, and ended on January 2, 2024, when they were no longer used. Vehicle production and supplier traceability records were used to determine the suspect period.

Why? If this was a sub-manufacture, did anyone check the parts first? If not, then remove this sub-manufacture.
