Small Plane Crashes On Chrysler Tech Center Property After Mechanical Issue!

The Auburn Hills Police Department reported that a small plane experiencing a mechanical issue made an emergency landing on the grounds of the Chrysler Technology Center (CTC) on Wednesday.

The CTC complex is the home of the North American operations for Stellantis. The 504-acre complex is located next to I-75 in Auburn Hills, Michigan, a northern suburb of Detroit. Completed in 1996, the complex has 5.4 million square feet of usable space, placing it among the largest buildings in the world by floor space.

“A 63-year-old male pilot from Detroit made an emergency landing and crashed on Stellantis property after experiencing engine trouble. The male was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. There were no other occupants or vehicles involved in the crash,” Auburn Hills Police reported via Twitter.

Stellantis released a statement late Wednesday stating, “Stellantis confirms that a small plane went down at its’ Auburn Hills campus this afternoon. No employees were involved or injured. We have no further comment as the crash is currently under investigation.”

The incident took place right in front of the former Walter P. Chrysler Museum, which closed in 2016. FCA US converted the museum to office space, which now currently houses the North American Headquarters for the Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands. 

The incident remains under investigation.
